How does the Single Mid-Pipe for F97 change the sound?

The Single Mid-Pipe for F97 / F98 BMW X3 M / X4 M merges both S58 banks early and keeps them together for longer. Active Autowerke says this gives a more aggressive and deeper tone than the factory mid-pipe. The resonated version keeps most of that depth while smoothing the note for daily driving.

Should I pick the resonated version?

Choose the resonated version if the vehicle covers long highway distances or carries passengers often, since it smooths the sound. The plain version gives the most open, aggressive tone and suits owners who want the strongest change from the factory exhaust. Both versions share the same construction and fit.

How does it compare with the equal length mid-pipe?

The single mid-pipe is the deeper and more aggressive choice. The Active Autowerke equal length mid-pipe evens out the bank lengths before they merge and uses Gen 2 resonators, which gives a smoother, sweeter note at high rpm. Pick by the character you want from the vehicle.

Is installation difficult?

No. Active Autowerke says the mid-pipe needs only a single cut in the factory mid-pipe and uses factory-style flanges and clamps. Most owners with tools and a lift can fit it, and the factory mid-pipe can be put back if the vehicle returns to stock.

Will it work with an aftermarket rear exhaust?

Active Autowerke designed it to work with most aftermarket rear sections that use factory-style fittings, as well as the factory rear. For a matched system, Active Autowerke builds a valved axle-back for the X3 M and X4 M that is designed around its mid-pipes and catted downpipes.

Description

Active Autowerke Signature Single Mid-Pipe for F97 / F98 BMW X3 M / X4 M

Active Autowerke’s Single Mid-Pipe for F97 / F98 BMW X3 M / X4 M was released after repeated requests from owners who wanted the S58 in their SUV to sound as purposeful as it drives. Like the single mid-pipes Active Autowerke builds for the F8X and G8X cars, it feeds both banks into one pipe early and lets them mix for longer, which Active Autowerke credits for a more aggressive and deeper tone than the factory mid-pipe. A resonated version takes the edge off for owners who cover long highway miles in their vehicle. It is the deeper, louder option of the two Active Autowerke mid-pipes for these vehicles; the Equal Length Mid-Pipe for F97 / F98 is the smoother one.

Design and Performance

The mid-pipe is 100% 304 brushed stainless steel with factory-style flanges and clamps, and Active Autowerke says it needs only a single cut in the factory mid-pipe. It is designed to work with most aftermarket rear sections that use factory-style fittings, and the factory mid-pipe can be reinstated later.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
