Do the AFlow Catted Downpipes for F97 need a tune?

No. Active Autowerke sells the AFlow Catted Downpipes for F97 / F98 BMW X3 M / X4 M as needing no performance tune, and its two-year catalyst efficiency guarantee holds on factory software. A tune can draw more from the freer flow later, but the vehicle runs correctly without one.

Will these downpipes set a check engine light on an X3 M?

Active Autowerke guarantees that its AFlow converters will not set a catalyst efficiency fault during the first two years of ownership and replaces them in full if they do. The 400 cell substrate reaches working efficiency within 9 seconds of a cold start, which keeps the downstream sensors satisfied.

Are these the same downpipes as the G80 M3 set?

No. The X3 M and X4 M use the same S58 engine family as the G80 M3, but the engine sits in a different chassis, so Active Autowerke builds a separate downpipe for the F97 and F98. The construction, pipe diameter and converters match the M3 set.

Should I choose AFlow or GESI converters for my X3 M?

For a stock or lightly modified vehicle, AFlow. The AFlow converters are rated for up to 800 horsepower and carry a two-year replacement guarantee. The GESI version costs more and uses converters rated from 500 to 850 horsepower, which suits an S58 being built for much more power than BMW gave it.

Do they fit European X3 M and X4 M models?

Active Autowerke confirms fitment on US-model vehicles only and cannot guarantee it on vehicles built for other markets. Owners of an imported or European-specification F97 or F98 should contact Bulletproof Automotive before ordering, so the exhaust layout can be checked against the US-model part.

Description

Active Autowerke AFlow Catted Downpipes for F97 / F98 BMW X3 M / X4 M

Active Autowerke’s AFlow Catted Downpipes for F97 / F98 BMW X3 M / X4 M give the twin-turbo S58 in these M sport activity vehicles a freer exit, with 3 inch stainless pipes and an Active AFlow converter in each bank. The X3 M and X4 M share their engine with the G80 M3 but carry it in a taller, heavier body, and faster turbo response is what Active Autowerke designed these pipes to deliver. For a daily-driven X3 M on factory software, this is the sensible choice: no tune is needed, the converters carry a two-year guarantee against catalyst efficiency codes, and they cost less than the GESI Catted Downpipes.

Design and Performance

Active Autowerke chose a large-bore pipe with as few bends as packaging allows, so exhaust gas leaves each turbine housing against less back pressure and the turbos spool sooner. A cast stainless V-band seals each pipe to its turbo, stainless flex joints take up engine movement, and the outlets never drop below factory diameter.

Features

Pair of Active AFlow high flow catalytic converters
EPA registered and OBD2 compliant converters
Two-year guarantee against catalyst efficiency check engine lights, with full replacement
304 stainless substrate furnace brazed to the converter mantle
Converters rated to 1500F and efficient within 9 seconds of startup
TIG welded 304 stainless steel, made in Miami, Florida
Bolt-on installation with no cutting or welding

Specifications

Converter diameter: 4.5 in
Catalyst cell density: 400 cpsi
Rated output: Up to 800 hp

Applications

BMW X4 M: F98 | 2020-2025 | 3.0L S58

Notes

Active Autowerke confirms fitment on US-model vehicles only
The AFlow Catted Downpipes for F97 meet the factory mid-pipe or the Active Autowerke Equal Length Mid-Pipe for F97 and Single Mid-Pipe for F97, and pair with the Valved Axle-Back Exhaust for F97 / F98
Shells and tube ends are warranted for 5 years or 50,000 miles and the catalytic cores for 2 years or 25,000 miles, to the original purchaser. Tuning for more burble than stock voids the warranty, since it physically destroys the core.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
