Supersprint’s Front Exhaust for E89 BMW Z4 replaces both factory front pipes on the N54 and carries a matched pair of 200 CPSI metallic substrate converters from HJS, the German motorsport catalyst house Supersprint has sourced from for decades. A metallic substrate is thin steel foil rather than a ceramic monolith, so the wall between channels is thinner and more of the frontal area is open bore. Pipework is AISI 304 stainless at a nominal 1.5mm wall, mandrel bent so the diameter holds through every radius, and the threaded bung for the oxygen sensor arrives already welded in. This is the section to change once the rest of the system is open and the front of the car has become the restriction. On an otherwise factory 35i it is more converter than the engine will ask for.

Construction

Supersprint builds the Front Exhaust for E89 BMW Z4 at its own plant in Mantova, and the joins show it. Flanges are CNC machined stainless 7mm to 12mm thick, heavy enough to stay flat against a hot turbo outlet through repeated heat cycles rather than dishing and weeping at the gasket. Right and left halves are supplied together as one matched pair.

Supersprint has built exhaust systems in Mantova, Italy since 1955, designing and manufacturing in house rather than assembling bought-in parts. Piping is AISI 304 stainless at a nominal 1.5mm wall, mandrel bent and TIG or MIG welded to CNC machined stainless flanges 7mm to 12mm thick; AISI 310S and Inconel come out where thermal load is highest, and catalyst hardware comes from HJS. Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
