Is an air filter included?

No. The intake does not come with a filter. The manufacturer recommends its MAX FLOW air filter, part number MAF-Z1-800, or a factory air filter. Using a factory or factory-shape filter is part of the design, since it keeps dust out and protects the engine.

Do I need to cut the hood?

Yes. On a factory hood, part of the underside has to be cut for clearance. The Type-S hood from the same manufacturer fits over the chamber without any modification, so owners planning that hood can avoid cutting altogether. Professional installation is recommended either way.

Will the Tsuchinoko Air Intake for ZF1 cars upset the ECU?

No. The Tsuchinoko Air Intake for ZF1 cars reuses part of the factory air cleaner box, which the manufacturer says avoids the airflow sensor flow errors and lean fuel trim that can come with aftermarket air cleaners. It also takes a factory-shape filter, so service stays simple.

Does it fit CVT models?

Yes. The manufacturer lists the intake for both the six-speed manual and the CVT versions of the ZF1 CR-Z, so transmission choice does not matter. Fitment is specific to the CR-Z, as the chamber and ducts were developed for this car alone.

Should I choose carbon or FRP?

Both versions share the same chamber design, ducts and fitment. The carbon version costs more and is the one shown in the installed photos. The manufacturer describes the material of both versions in the same terms, so ask us before ordering if you need detail on how the FRP finish differs.

Description

J’s Racing Tsuchinoko Air Intake for ZF1 Honda CR-Z

J’s Racing’s Tsuchinoko Air Intake for ZF1 CR-Z owners starts from the view that the factory intake is built around cost and easy maintenance, which leaves it restrictive and short of cool air. Developed only for the CR-Z, this chamber draws cooler outside air directly through two ducts, one at the grille and one low in the bumper, and enlarges the air box volume. J’s Racing combines a chamber effect for low and mid-range torque with ram pressure from the ducts for top-end power. It suits an owner who wants more response without ECU complaints; anyone unwilling to trim the hood underside should pair it with the Type-S hood.

Design and Performance

Because the Tsuchinoko reuses part of the factory air cleaner box, it avoids the airflow sensor errors and lean fuel trim that J’s Racing says can follow aftermarket air cleaners. It runs a factory or factory-shape filter, which keeps dust out and protects the engine. It fits both six-speed manual and CVT cars.

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
