The IPD 82mm Competition Plenum for the 997.1 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S replaces the factory “T” style air distributor with an advanced “Y” design, delivering substantial power and torque gains through improved efficiency. Horsepower increases range from 24 to 28, depending on engine displacement and condition, with peak power gains focused in the mid-range, where they’re most effective and enjoyable. Alongside significant power and torque boosts, the IPD Plenum provides a more linear power curve, enhancing drivability across the RPM range. Power

All IPD Plenums provide substantial power and torque gains, with even greater performance achieved when paired with larger throttle bodies. Each IPD “Competition” Plenum utilizes the next largest throttle body size available from Porsche; for the Competition Carrera, this involves upgrading the factory 74mm throttle body to Porsche’s 82mm 997 GT3 throttle body. The Competition Plenums are designed to excel on vehicles equipped with high-performance exhaust systems, and the more comprehensive the exhaust setup (headers, catalytic converters, and mufflers), the better the results. Balancing optimized air intake with exhaust enhancements creates a cohesive performance package, allowing the engine to intake and expel more air, which generates additional power and torque.
Power improvements are fully realized once the factory ECU/DME completes the necessary “adaptation” process. This can be accelerated through a series of “hard pulls” or spirited full-throttle acceleration runs through the gears, which should only be conducted on a closed-course circuit.

Engineering

IPD has pioneered a new design with the Competition Carrera Plenum, enhancing laminar flow and volumetric efficiency through an innovative internal merge collector. This fresh approach yields impressive performance gains, with more linear power delivery and improved throttle response. Gains vary depending on pre-existing modifications and the quality of any aftermarket exhaust installed. As is well-known, achieving horsepower and torque becomes progressively challenging and costly as performance advances. The effectiveness of performance components also depends on the installation order. IPD rigorously tests all products on stock vehicles, ensuring an “apples-to-apples” baseline for comparison. The Competition Carrera Plenum, however, is tailored for applications that are already moderately to heavily modified. While power gains vary by Carrera model, this Plenum consistently delivers noticeable and impressive gains, delighting Porsche Carrera enthusiasts.
The 997.1 Carrera Comp Plenum is offered with two silicone hose options. Part #97182 includes a custom IPD silicone hose designed to fit the 82mm GT3 throttle body and the factory Porsche air box. Part #97182-RH features a straight silicone reducer hose coupler compatible with the 82mm GT3 throttle body and most popular aftermarket air intake systems that replace the factory air box.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do.
