Description

SOUL Performance Bolt-On X-Pipe with Tips for 987.1 Porsche Boxster / Cayman

SOUL Performance’s Bolt-On X-Pipe with Tips for the 987.1 Porsche Boxster and Cayman is the easiest way to give the flat-six a more finished voice without touching the rest of the exhaust. In place of the factory center section, it fits a cast T304L stainless X-pipe that crosses the two banks and smooths the exhaust pulses, trading the stock car’s slightly flat note for something warmer and more refined, with a little more power when the throttle is open and, SOUL expects, a touch better economy at a cruise. Built in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and finished with stainless tips you specify by style, length and finish, it bolts in using the factory connections, so a job most owners finish in under an hour changes the way the car sounds every time it starts. It is the rare upgrade that looks and sounds like far more money than it costs.

Development

The heart of the upgrade is the cast X-pipe. Crossing the exhaust from side to side, it balances the pulses leaving each bank of the flat-six, which is what gives the car a smoother, more refined note in place of the slightly uneven factory sound. SOUL expects a small gain in power under hard acceleration from the improved scavenging, and a slight improvement in cruising economy, while the real everyday reward is tone: the car simply sounds more like it should. Because the X-pipe is cast rather than welded up from bends, the shape is consistent and the flow path is clean.

Construction

SOUL Performance uses a cast T304L stainless steel X-pipe with a smooth inner wall and a clean “X” section to maximize exhaust flow. A range of tip options is available, including single-wall stainless (slash cut or straight cut) and chrome double-wall tips in multiple finishes to personalize the look. Every set is rigorously quality-checked and foam packed to help ensure it arrives in perfect condition.

Features

Bolt-on cast T304L stainless X-pipe replaces restrictive OEM “T” section
Straight or Slash Cut Single Wall Tips in Brushed, Signature Satin and Black Satin
Improved exhaust flow for refined tone and quicker response
Compatible with factory exhaust and Porsche Sport Exhaust
Backed by SOUL Lifetime Warranty

Applications

Porsche Boxster: 987.1 | 2005-2008 | 2.7L, 3.2L and 3.4L flat-six
Porsche Cayman: 987.1 | 2006-2008 | 2.7L and 3.4L flat-six

Notes

The finish on the signature satin / brushed single wall stainless steel tips will develop a golden hue over time due to heat
Short tips are 1″ shorter for a less aggressive look

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Boxster and Cayman does the Bolt-On X-Pipe with Tips fit? The Bolt-On X-Pipe with Tips fits the 987.1 Porsche Boxster and Cayman from 2005 to 2008, across the 2.7, 3.2 and 3.4 liter flat-six engines. It works with the factory exhaust and with Porsche Sport Exhaust, since it mounts at the factory connections. The 987.2 cars from 2009 onward are not covered.
What does the X-pipe actually change? The cast X-pipe crosses the exhaust from bank to bank, which balances the pulses and smooths the note, so the car sounds warmer and more refined than stock. SOUL expects a small power gain under hard acceleration and a slight improvement in cruising economy, but the main everyday difference most owners notice is the sound.
Is it loud, or will it drone? It is a mild change rather than a loud one. The X-pipe refines and deepens the factory note without the volume or highway drone of a full race exhaust, which is why many owners fit it as a tasteful daily upgrade. If you want a dramatic increase in volume, this part alone will not deliver it.
What is the SOUL Bolt-On X-Pipe with Tips made from? It is a cast T304L stainless steel X-pipe, finished with stainless tips in the style, length and finish you choose when ordering. SOUL builds it in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and backs it with a lifetime warranty to the original owner for both street and track use.
How hard is it to install? Installation is a direct bolt-on at the factory connections, with no cutting or fabrication, and most owners complete it in under an hour with the car safely raised. SOUL includes an install guide, and a common tip is to soak the factory flange bolts in penetrating oil before you start.
What tip options are there? You choose the tip style (straight cut single wall, slash cut single wall, or chrome double wall), the tip length (long, or one inch shorter), and the finish (signature satin, brushed satin, black, polished chrome, or black chrome). The price varies with the combination you select, and each set is built to order.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
