What colors does the Tallboy Shift Knob Bundle come in?

The GrimmSpeed Tallboy Shift Knob Bundle is currently offered with a red powdercoated billet aluminum Tallboy or a black Delrin Tallboy. Both knobs stand 140mm tall and use the M12 x 1.25 thread, so the choice comes down to weight, finish and how the knob feels in hand.

Does a tall knob cancel out the shorter throw?

Partly, and that is the intent. Throw at the knob stays shorter than stock, but the added height lengthens the lever so each shift takes less effort than a short shifter with a stock knob. GrimmSpeed built this pairing for drivers who want tight gates without a heavy, notchy feel.

Should I choose the aluminum or the Delrin Tallboy?

GrimmSpeed lists the red aluminum Tallboy at 284 g and the black Delrin version at 147 g. The heavier aluminum knob adds inertia that helps carry the lever into gear, while the lighter Delrin knob passes more of the gearbox feel through to your hand.

Is console trimming needed, and does reverse lockout still work?

No trimming is needed, and yes, reverse lockout still works. GrimmSpeed designed the STI Short Throw Shifter as a bolt-in part that keeps the factory lockout cable and leaves neutral close to stock even at aggressive throw settings, so nothing in the cabin is cut.

Can a WRX owner use this bundle?

Not as listed. GrimmSpeed fits the short throw shifter in this bundle to the 2004-2021 STI 6-speed only. The Tallboy knob would thread onto many Subaru manual shifters by itself, but a WRX owner should confirm shifter fitment with GrimmSpeed before buying the pair.

Description

GrimmSpeed Short Shifter and Tallboy Shift Knob Bundle for VA, GR / GV, and GD Subaru STI

The GrimmSpeed Tallboy Shift Knob Bundle answers the usual complaint about short shifters, extra effort, by pairing the GrimmSpeed STI Short Throw Shifter with a 140mm Tallboy knob for 2004-2021 STI 6-speed cars. Moving your hand further from the pivot lengthens the lever arm, so a throw cut by up to 26.3 percent still engages without force, and the grip sits closer to the wheel. Drivers who already find the STI lever tall should look at the Stubby pairing instead.

How It Works

A short throw shifter shortens travel by changing the lever ratio, which raises the force needed at the knob. Height works the other way. Beneath the knob, the GrimmSpeed shifter swaps the factory rubber center bushings for sealed Enduro MAX ball bearings in a black anodized 6061-T6 billet housing, holding its precision over the miles.

Features

Red powdercoated billet aluminum Tallboy weighs 284 g for a planted feel.
Black Delrin Tallboy weighs 147 g for a lighter, more direct feel.
Shaft height adjusts to fine-tune reach, and the factory STI reverse lockout stays.

About GrimmSpeed

GrimmSpeed began in 2006 in a single-stall garage in Maplewood, Minnesota, porting and polishing Subaru manifolds. After building parts for several other makes, the company narrowed its focus back to Subaru, and its range now covers intercoolers, charge pipes, intakes, bypass valves, headers, up-pipes, catback exhausts, turbochargers, brake caliper kits, drivetrain mounts and titanium engine bay parts for the WRX, STI, Forester XT, Legacy GT, Ascent and BRZ, along with the Toyota 86 and GR86. GrimmSpeed engineers and manufactures as much of that range as it can in-house, and its front mount intercoolers are welded and inspected by hand in the USA.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
