What do the Competition Muffler Outlets actually do?

They replace the factory exhaust tips with outlets whose turndowns rotate, letting you aim the exhaust toward the ground instead of out toward the side of the track. Circuits measure sound as a drive-by reading from a fixed position, so where the gases are pointed changes what the meter hears without changing the exhaust itself.

Will they get my car under a track's sound limit?

They help, but no honest answer guarantees it. How much difference they make depends on the venue, where the meter sits, and what exhaust the car is running. Owners of loud systems commonly use turndowns as the difference between a marginal reading and a comfortable one, rather than as a fix for a car far over the limit.

Do they replace my whole exhaust or just the tips?

Just the tips. The mufflers, pipework, headers and everything upstream stay exactly as they are, which is the point: you keep the system you chose and change only where it exits. The factory tips can go back on at any time.

Can I adjust them at the track?

Yes, and that is how most owners use them. The turndowns rotate quickly enough to set in the paddock between sessions, so the car can run aimed downward during timed running and be turned back for the drive home. No tools beyond the supplied hardware are needed once they are fitted.

How difficult is the installation?

Straightforward. They bolt on at Level-1 install difficulty with no cutting and no welding, and Fabspeed supplies every clamp and fastener required. Most owners fit them in an afternoon in their own garage, and removal is equally quick if the car is being sold or returned to standard.

Which 996 GT3 models do they fit?

All 996 GT3 cars with the 3.6L flat-six from 1999 to 2005, covering both the early and the later versions. They are specific to the 996 GT3's exhaust exit, so 997 and later cars need the equivalent parts for their own chassis rather than these.

Fabspeed’s Competition Muffler Outlets for the 996 Porsche 911 GT3 solve a problem that only shows up once the exhaust is already right: the car sounds exactly as its owner wants it to, and then a circuit puts a meter beside the track and threatens to send it home. These outlets replace the factory tips with adjustable turndowns that rotate to point the exhaust toward the ground and away from trackside measuring equipment, which is how experienced owners manage a drive-by reading without undoing a system they spent real money on. Fabspeed fabricates them from T304L stainless in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, they bolt on with the supplied clamps and hardware, and they come off just as easily when the weekend is over. For a 996 GT3 that actually gets driven at organised events, this is the cheapest insurance in the catalogue.

How They Work

Sound limits at a circuit are almost always measured as a drive-by reading taken from a fixed position beside the track, which means the direction the exhaust is pointing matters as much as how loud the system is. The adjustable turndowns rotate to aim the gases downward and away from the meter, so what reaches the microphone is reduced without the engine, the headers or the mufflers being touched. Adjustment is quick enough to do in the paddock between sessions, and the outlets return to their normal position for the drive home.

Notes

These outlets replace the exhaust tips only; the mufflers, pipework and everything upstream stay exactly as they are
The turndowns reduce what reaches a trackside meter by changing where the exhaust is aimed rather than by muffling it. Results depend on the venue, the measuring position and the rest of the exhaust system on the car.
Fabspeed supplies all clamps and hardware, so nothing further is needed to fit them
Particularly worth having alongside the louder systems for this chassis, including the Fabspeed Supercup Exhaust System, the Fabspeed Competition X-Pipe and the Fabspeed Muffler Bypass Pipes
Other 996 GT3 options include the Fabspeed Sport Headers, the Sport X-Pipe, the Maxflo Performance Exhaust System and XperTune Performance Software (FS.POR.996GT3.ET)

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
