AWE Tuning Touring Edition Exhaust System w/ Chrome Silver Tips for DE5 Acura Integra Type S

The DE5 Integra Type S platform is a natural fit for exhaust upgrades, and the AWE Tuning Touring Edition Exhaust addresses the two things daily drivers actually care about: measurable performance and a clean, drone-free cabin experience on the highway. Built as a full 3-inch T304L stainless steel downpipe-back system, it incorporates an integrated front pipe, a mid-pipe resonator, and AWE’s patented 180 Technology at the rear, with every component developed around DE5 fitment. The resonator uses strategically placed ports and reflection chambers to intercept drone-prone sound waves as they exit the K20; by tuning port size, placement, and chamber geometry, AWE determines precisely when those reflected waves rejoin the main exhaust flow, generating a 180-degree out-of-phase wave that eliminates the problem frequencies entirely. The bore runs straight through, so there’s no restriction and no power compromise; just a deep exhaust note out back and a quiet cabin at speed. AWE validated the system against both the factory downpipe and aftermarket catted units, so downpipe selection doesn’t dictate your sound outcome. Thick-walled T304L stainless construction runs the full length, and Chrome Silver tips close it out at the bumper.

Not Valved

  • AWE’s development process included a thorough evaluation of the factory valve across multiple driving conditions to determine what it was actually accomplishing. The finding was straightforward; the volume difference between modes isn’t significant enough to warrant the valve’s presence. In comfort mode it stays closed, though it cracks open past a certain throttle input; sport and sport+ keep it open, with sport+ layering in ECU-generated burbles on top. Stock routing uses the side mufflers when the valve is closed to keep interior volume in check, then redirects flow through the center once it opens. AWE’s setup eliminates that entirely, running a full straight-through path through the 180 Technology resonator at all times, in every drive mode, with no valve behavior affecting the outcome. Around the neighborhood at light throttle, the Touring Edition stays composed; it’s noticeably deeper than stock, but it’s not intrusive.

Front Pipes

  • A full 3-inch front pipe is part of the system, built with a specific flange and gasket that holds the full diameter from inlet to outlet without narrowing. It’s designed as an integrated part of the exhaust rather than a modular piece, and it connects to the factory downpipe or an aftermarket unit without issue. AWE exhausts are not compatible with other aftermarket front pipes.

Exhaust Tips

  • Three 4.5-inch double-walled, slash-cut tips in Chrome Silver come with every system, each one stamped with the AWE logo. They’re individually adjustable, so fitment depth into the bumper can be dialed in to taste.

180 Technology

  • An exhaust system that sounds good at wide-open throttle but drones at cruise isn’t solving the whole problem. AWE’s patented 180 Technology is specifically designed to eliminate the frequencies responsible for that, without touching the ones that make the exhaust note worth having. As gases leave the engine and enter a 180 Technology resonator, they move through precisely located ports into reflection chambers. The sound waves inside those gases reflect off the chamber walls, and AWE’s acoustic engineers size and position the ports and chambers according to the specific acoustics of each vehicle. That geometry controls when the reflected waves return to the main flow; the re-entry timing produces a wave that is 180 degrees out of phase with the unwanted frequencies, canceling them cleanly. Every resonator is calibrated for a specific platform rather than adapted from a generic design, which is a core reason AWE’s exhaust note holds up consistently across different applications. Flow stays unrestricted throughout, so output isn’t compromised in the process.

Fitment Guarantee

  • AWE started in 1991 as an installer of aftermarket parts, which means they built the company with a clear understanding of what a poor fitment actually costs. The AWE Fitment Guarantee applies to every AWE brand product, backing the engineering with a commitment to precise fitment and clean installation by a qualified installer, without exception.

No CEL Guaranteed

  • AWE’s No Check Engine Light Guarantee means no warning lights when the product is properly installed and used as intended, on a vehicle running no additional modifications beyond other compatible AWE products. Straightforward coverage, no exceptions buried in the fine print.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will this exhaust produce drone at highway speeds? No. The Touring Edition is built around AWE’s patented 180 Technology, which cancels drone-prone frequencies at the resonator before they reach the cabin. The straight-through design preserves full flow, so there’s no trade-off between sound quality and highway comfort.
  • Does the AWE Touring Edition work with an aftermarket downpipe? Yes, but only with AWE’s aftermarket downpipes. AWE developed and validated the Touring Edition for use with both the factory downpipe and an aftermarket catted downpipe.
  • Does installing this exhaust trigger a check engine light? No, provided the system is installed correctly and used as intended on a vehicle with no additional modifications outside of other compatible AWE products. AWE backs this with their No Check Engine Light Guarantee.
  • What performance gains can I expect? AWE’s dyno testing on the DE5 with the stock downpipe shows gains of up to 4hp and 6lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

About AWE Tuning

AWE Tuning has been engineering performance exhaust systems and related components since 1991, starting out as an installer of aftermarket parts before developing their own in-house product line. Based in the United States, AWE designs, engineers, and manufactures their products domestically, with a catalog that spans a wide range of European and Japanese platforms. Their exhaust systems are built from U.S.-sourced T304L stainless steel and CNC mandrel-bent in-house, and the brand holds multiple patents, including their 180 Technology drone-cancellation system, which was developed to solve a problem that most exhaust manufacturers ignore entirely. AWE backs every product with a Fitment Guarantee and a No Check Engine Light Guarantee, both of which trace back to their roots as installers who knew firsthand what a poorly engineered fitment actually costs the end user. Across more than three decades in the industry, AWE has built a reputation for exhaust systems that perform on the dyno and hold up in daily use, without the compromises that typically come with choosing one over the other.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.
Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
