What else do I need to fit the S-Tai Carbon Diffuser for AP1?

The Spoon S-Tai rear bumper. Spoon states that the S-Tai Carbon Diffuser for AP1 and AP2 is exclusive to its S-Tai rear bumper, part 71501-AP1-000, so the diffuser is normally bought with that bumper or added to a car already wearing it. BA lists the S-Tai rear bumper separately.

Can it be fitted to the factory S2000 rear bumper?

Not as designed. Spoon specifies it for the S-Tai rear bumper only. Go Tuning, the US distributor for Spoon, says it can be adapted to a factory AP1 or AP2 bumper with some modification, but that is custom work outside the Spoon design, and BA cannot guarantee the fit or the result.

How does a rear diffuser help?

It gives the air leaving the underside of the car a controlled path out at the rear bumper. Done well, that lowers pressure under the car and reduces the turbulent wake, which is why Go Tuning credits this part with cutting drag and adding downforce. Spoon publishes no figures, so none are quoted here.

Does it fit both AP1 and AP2 cars?

Yes. Spoon registers the diffuser for every S2000 grade it lists, from the first F20C AP1 of April 1999 through the last F22C AP2 of September 2009. The requirement for the S-Tai rear bumper applies to all of them, early or late.

How should the carbon be finished?

Spoon advises protecting the diffuser with a UV-resistant clear coat, as sunlight can discolor carbon fiber. Fit the diffuser and bumper together before any finishing work to check alignment, and let the clear air dry; Spoon warns that heat from a booth or a heater aimed at one spot can distort the part.

Description

Spoon Sports S-Tai Carbon Diffuser for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports S-Tai Carbon Diffuser for AP1 and AP2 S2000 is the rear diffuser Spoon designed exclusively for its S-Tai rear bumper, and the two are meant to be fitted together. Spoon began developing S2000 aero in 2007 and proved its parts in Super Taikyu endurance racing, the series the S-Tai name refers to. The diffuser’s role is to tidy the air leaving the underside of the car at the rear bumper, which Go Tuning, Spoon’s US distributor, says reduces drag and produces downforce at the same time. It is made from carbon fiber and listed at 7 kg, a substantial piece that spans the width of the rear of the car. Spoon registers it for every S2000 it lists, from the April 1999 F20C car to the final F22C cars of 2009. It suits an owner completing the S-Tai rear end; without that bumper, Spoon’s own fitment guidance does not support it.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
