Does the S-Tai Rear Bumper for AP1 bolt straight onto an AP2?

No. Spoon states that the rear bumper stay must be modified when the S-Tai Rear Bumper for AP1 is fitted to an AP2 or to an AP1-130, the late AP1 built from October 2003. Earlier AP1 cars need no such change, so the extra work applies only to the later cars.

What does preventing the parachute effect mean?

Air that collects behind and under a rear bumper can push back on the car like a small parachute, adding drag. Go Tuning says the S-Tai rear is shaped to stop that effect, letting air leave the back of the S2000 more cleanly, which matches the speed and fuel economy brief Spoon set for endurance racing.

Is there a diffuser made for this bumper?

Yes. Spoon offers an S-Tai carbon diffuser designed for this rear bumper, listed separately at BA. The bumper can be fitted without it, but the diffuser completes the S-Tai rear and is the logical addition for a car that already runs the matching front bumper and sees regular track use.

No. Spoon supplies the bumper unpainted. Wax is used in making it, so it must be degreased, then lightly sanded with roughly 800 grit paper before primer. Check the fit on the car first, and allow the finish to dry naturally, since direct heat can distort the FRP.

How much does it weigh?

Spoon lists the S-Tai rear bumper at 14 kg, and it ships in a box of 95 x 180 x 48 cm. Neither Spoon nor Go Tuning publishes the factory bumper weight for comparison, so BA does not claim a saving. Its value lies in airflow and cooling rather than in weight.

Description

Spoon Sports S-Tai Rear Bumper for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports S-Tai Rear Bumper for AP1 and AP2 Honda S2000 tackles a problem common at the back of many cars: air trapped under the rear bumper acts like a parachute. Go Tuning, the US distributor for Spoon, says the S-Tai rear is shaped to prevent that effect, and Spoon designed it alongside the matching front to manage airflow while getting fresh air to the parts that need cooling. It came out of the S2000 endurance racing Spoon has focused on since 1999, where a car that wastes fuel or overheats loses the race regardless of lap time. The rear is FRP, listed at 14 kg. Early AP1 cars take it directly, while the AP1-130 cars from October 2003 and every AP2 need the rear bumper stay modified. It is the natural partner to the S-Tai front, and a car running only the front will look unfinished without it.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
