Are the AFlow Catted Downpipes for F80 right for a tuned S55?

Up to a point. Active Autowerke rates the AFlow converters in the AFlow Catted Downpipes for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 and F87 M2 Competition for engines making up to 500 horsepower. A stock or lightly tuned S55 sits inside that limit. An engine built beyond 500 horsepower should use the GESI version, rated from 500 to 850.

Do I need a tune after fitting catted downpipes to an F80 M3?

No. Active Autowerke sells these downpipes as needing no performance tune, and its two-year catalyst efficiency guarantee applies on factory software. Many S55 owners pair downpipes with a tune to use the freer flow, which is fine as long as total output stays within the 500 horsepower rating.

Will these downpipes trigger a check engine light?

Active Autowerke guarantees that the AFlow converters will not set a catalyst efficiency code during the first two years of ownership, with full replacement if they do. The 400 cell metallic substrate reaches working efficiency within 9 seconds of a cold start, which keeps the downstream oxygen sensors in range.

Do they fit the F87 M2 with the N55 engine?

No. This set is built for the S55 engine in the F87 M2 Competition, F80 M3 and F82 M4. The earlier F87 M2 uses the single-turbo N55 and a different downpipe, which Active Autowerke sells separately as an N55 catted downpipe.

How difficult are S55 downpipes to install?

The set bolts on with no cutting or welding, locating at each turbo through a cast stainless V-band. Working on a lift is strongly recommended, because the downpipes are reached from beneath the car, and the factory parts can be reinstalled later since nothing is modified.

Description

Active Autowerke AFlow Catted Downpipes for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 and F87 M2 Competition

Active Autowerke’s AFlow Catted Downpipes for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 and F87 M2 Competition put a 4 inch Active AFlow converter in each of the twin-turbo S55’s two downpipes, built from TIG welded 304 stainless in Miami. Active Autowerke rates these converters for engines making up to 500 horsepower, and that number tells a buyer exactly where they belong. The S55 leaves the factory well under it in every one of these cars, so a stock or lightly tuned M3, M4 or M2 Competition gets quicker spool and a two-year guarantee against catalyst efficiency codes at a lower price than the GESI Catted Downpipes. Past 500 horsepower, the GESI set is the right part.

Notes

The AFlow Catted Downpipes for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 and F87 M2 Competition meet the factory mid-pipe or the Active Autowerke Equal Length Mid-Pipe for F80 / F82, Single Mid-Pipe for F80 / F82, Equal Length Mid-Pipe for F87 M2 Competition and Single Mid-Pipe for F87 M2 Competition
Active Autowerke also sells its F8X exhaust as the Equal Length Exhaust Bundle for F80 / F82 and the Equal Length Exhaust Bundle for F87
Shells and tube ends carry a 5 year or 50,000 mile warranty and the catalytic cores 2 years or 25,000 miles, for the original purchaser. A tune with more burble than stock voids the warranty, because it physically destroys the core.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
