How much power does the Single Mid-Pipe for F80 add?

Active Autowerke measured gains of 18 or more wheel horsepower and 30 or more lb-ft of torque on a Mustang dyno with the Single Mid-Pipe for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 and its F8X rear exhaust section fitted together. The mid-pipe alone was not measured separately, so expect a smaller gain on its own.

Does it get rid of the weed eater sound?

Yes. Active Autowerke traced the raspy weed eater sound to the out-of-sync turbos meeting in the factory crossover and silencer. Its single-pipe design merges the banks in one large pipe instead, which Active Autowerke says removes much of that sound and leaves a deeper, more harmonious note.

Why is the pipe oval?

Active Autowerke wanted 3.5 inches of flow for performance but needed the mid-pipe to clear the road. An oval section carries that flow while keeping the pipe tucked up under the car, so ground clearance stays close to factory and the mid-pipe is not the lowest point.

Should I order the resonated version?

Choose the resonated version if you want the deeper single-pipe tone with less edge on long drives. The non-resonated version is the most open and aggressive. Both include the Active F-brace and use the same oval pipe, so the choice is purely about how loud you want the car.

Is the F-brace included?

Yes. The Active F-brace ships with every Single Mid-Pipe for the F80 and F82, so there is nothing extra to order for the installation. Active Autowerke also lists an exhaust dump version of this mid-pipe, which is not offered here.

Description

Active Autowerke Signature Single Mid-Pipe for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4

Active Autowerke’s Single Mid-Pipe for F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 is the part that started the company’s F8X exhaust program in 2014, built to cure the dueling three-cylinder sound the S55 makes through its factory mid-pipe. Active Autowerke traced the noise to the way the two turbos fall out of sync at the factory crossover and silencer, and answered with one large pipe that merges the banks and lets them settle. To fit 3.5 inch of flow under the car without losing ground clearance, the pipe is oval in section. On a Mustang dyno with its F8X rear section, Active Autowerke measured gains of 18 or more wheel horsepower and 30 or more lb-ft, so this is the mid-pipe for an owner who wants power as well as a deeper voice.

Design and Performance

BMW fitted the F8X with a middle silencer that has a small internal crossover. It helps with drone but restricts flow and amplifies the out-of-sync turbo sound. Active Autowerke replaced it with a single-pipe design that flows more freely, weighs less than the factory part and, by its account, spools the turbos sooner.

Features

Single oval pipe with 3.5 inch flow capacity
Deeper, throatier exhaust note
Lighter than the factory mid-pipe
Less back pressure for quicker turbo spool, per Active Autowerke
Non-resonated or resonated versions
Active F-brace included

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
