Spoon Sports Intake Chamber for ZF1 / ZF2 Honda CR-Z
A finished plenum for the CR-Z engine bay in the two colours most associated with Spoon and Honda Type R, applied in Tokyo
The Spoon Sports Intake Chamber for ZF1 and ZF2 Honda CR-Z replaces the plain black plenum of the hybrid coupe with the same resin chamber finished by Spoon in red crinkle or Spoon Yellow. The CR-Z was Honda’s attempt at a light, manual hybrid in the CR-X tradition, and Spoon treated it as a sports car, developing throttle, camshaft and chassis parts for it alongside this dress-up item. The finish is applied by Spoon itself with a process designed for plastic engine parts, the red echoing Type R cam covers and the yellow matching Spoon valve covers. There is no performance claim attached. It is worth fitting on a CR-Z kept as a cherished manual coupe; on a car that is only a commuter, the money buys more as a throttle or suspension upgrade.
Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
