Do the Aero Mirrors for FD2 come painted?

No. Spoon has supplied the Aero Mirrors for FD2 in a white gel coat finish since January 2021, a base meant for painting. Wax from the molding process must be removed with a degreaser first, then the surface is scuffed, any pinholes are filled, and the housings are painted to match the car.

Do the mirrors bolt to the factory mounting point?

Yes. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, states that the mirrors attach to the factory location with no modification needed. The door does not have to be drilled or trimmed, and the original mirrors can be stored and refitted later if the car is ever returned to standard.

How is the rear view compared with stock?

The housings are smaller, but the glass is a wide-angle type with a blue anti-glare tint, which widens the field of view for its size and cuts the dazzle of headlights at night. Most owners find it a sound trade for the slimmer profile, though the view takes a short time to get used to.

Can the mirrors be adjusted from the driver seat?

No. The lens angle is adjusted by hand on each mirror, so the factory power switch no longer moves the glass. Set them once from the driving position with the help of a second person, and they stay put through normal driving and car washes.

Which FD2 cars do they fit?

Spoon registers the mirrors for the JDM FD2 Civic Type R in both production runs, March 2007 to September 2008 and September 2008 to August 2010, each with the K20A and a 6-speed manual. The FD2 Type R was not sold new in the US.

Description

Spoon Sports Aero Mirrors for FD2 Honda Civic Type R

Spoon Sports’ Aero Mirrors for FD2 Civic Type R replace the large factory housings on Honda’s four-door Type R with slimmer shells shaped for the air. The FD2 is the K20A-powered Type R sedan built only for Japan from 2007 to 2010, and these mirrors carry Spoon race-car thinking to its doors. Go Tuning, Spoon’s US distributor, reports that they fit the factory mounting point without modification and use wide-angle glass with a blue anti-glare tint, which softens the glare from headlights behind. Folding is spring-loaded, with detents that click like the original mirror, and the lens angle is set by hand. Spoon switched the finish to white gel coat in January 2021, so every pair is painted before fitting. Spoon lists the set at 2 kg. They are the right choice for an FD2 owner who wants the Spoon face complete, and a poor one for anyone attached to power adjustment.

Notes

The Aero Mirrors for FD2 arrive in white gel coat and must be painted before fitting
Before painting, degrease the gel coat, scuff it with roughly 800-grit wet paper and fill any pinholes with polyester putty and surfacer
Test-fit before painting and let the paint air dry below 40 degrees C; booth heat can distort the housings
Mirror adjustment is manual; the factory power adjustment no longer moves the glass

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
