Spoon Sports Intake Chamber for GE8 Honda Fit
The plastic plenum that dominates the top of the L15A, returned in a red crinkle or Spoon Yellow coat applied by Spoon in Japan
The Spoon Sports Intake Chamber for GE8 Honda Fit gives the second-generation Fit RS the engine-bay signature of a Spoon car: the resin intake chamber of the 1.5-litre L15A, coated by Spoon using its own process in either a red crinkle finish matched to Honda Type R engines or in Spoon Yellow. Spoon has built, raced and serviced Hondas since 1988, and these two colours are its visual shorthand, the red tied to Type R heritage and the yellow to the smooth aluminium valve covers Spoon is known for. Spoon makes no power claim for it. It suits an owner restoring or presenting a GE8 to a high standard, where the plenum is the largest single surface under the bonnet; for a car built purely for lap times, the money is better spent elsewhere.
Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
