Is the Flywheel for EG6 the same part for the Integra?

Yes. Spoon sells one flywheel, part 22100-B16-000, for the EG6 and EK4 Civic SiR, the EK9 Civic Type R, the DC2 and DB8 Integra Type R and the earlier Integra Si VTEC. The Flywheel for EG6 weighs 4.2 kg whichever of those cars it goes into.

How much lighter is it than the factory flywheel?

Spoon and Go Tuning both give the Spoon flywheel at 4.2 kg, about 9.2 lb, but neither publishes a factory weight for these B-series cars, so BA does not quote a saving. The difference shows in how quickly the engine gains and loses revs between shifts.

Will a lighter flywheel make the car harder to launch?

Yes, slightly. A lighter flywheel stores less energy, so moving off from rest asks for a little more throttle and a smoother clutch release, particularly on a hill. In return the engine matches revs faster on downshifts and climbs back into the VTEC range sooner after each corner.

Which clutch should go with it?

Spoon designed its metal clutch disc for these cars to work with the factory cover, so the flywheel and that disc can be fitted together without a special pressure plate. The disc and cover are sold separately, while the pilot bearing and cover bolts arrive with the flywheel.

Should a shop install it?

Yes. The transmission has to come out to reach the flywheel, so the work suits a shop with a lift and a transmission jack. While it is apart, the clutch and release bearing are usually renewed, and the flywheel bolts must be torqued to the factory specification in the correct sequence.

Description

Spoon Sports Flywheel for EG6 / EK4 / EK9 Honda Civic and DC2 / DB8 Integra

Spoon Sports’ Flywheel for EG6, EK4 and EK9 Civic and DC2 and DB8 Integra gives the B16 and B18C a lighter partner at 4.2 kg, so less of the engine’s effort goes into spinning its own drivetrain and more into climbing toward the VTEC crossover. Spoon reached that weight through bench, on-car and circuit testing, choosing the figure that gave the best overall balance rather than the lowest number possible. Each flywheel is then dynamically balanced as an individual part, so the pattern of balance holes differs slightly between units. The same flywheel covers the five-speed SiR and Type R Civics, both Integra Type R bodies and the earlier JDM Integra Si VTEC, the core of the B-series cars on which Spoon built its name. It suits a car driven hard on back roads or at a circuit; an owner who wants the gentlest possible launches in daily traffic may prefer the factory part.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
