What problem does the Differential Mount Set for AP1 solve?

Imprecise differential movement, which Spoon names as one of the few weak points of the S2000. The Differential Mount Set for AP1 holds the differential in place under power and during tail slides, so the rear of the car stays rigid and the chassis answers inputs without a delay from the drivetrain.

Will it increase vibration in the cabin?

It may add a little. Spoon does not publish noise or vibration figures with the set fitted, and firmer location of a differential generally passes slightly more driveline feel into the car than soft factory mounts. An owner who values silence above all should weigh that against the gain in rear stability.

Is installation difficult?

No. Spoon kept the shape of the factory mounts, so the new parts go into the original locations and Spoon describes the replacement as simple. A shop with a lift can support the differential, swap the mounts and tighten the fasteners to the factory specification without any cutting or drilling.

Does it fit both the AP1 and AP2?

Yes. Spoon registers the set for every AP1 with the F20C and every AP2 with the F22C, covering S2000 production from 1999 to 2009. US cars share the same chassis and are covered, including the 2004 and 2005 cars with the 2.2 liter engine.

What else pairs well with it?

A limited-slip upgrade or a firmer engine and transmission mount set complements it, because each reduces unwanted movement in the drivetrain, and Spoon offers both for the S2000. On a car that keeps the factory differential, the mount set still sharpens turn-in and straight-line stability on its own.

Description

Spoon Sports Differential Mount Set for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports Differential Mount Set for AP1 and AP2 Honda S2000 targets what Spoon calls one of the car’s few weak points: the differential moving more than it should in its mounts. Under power, and especially when the tail steps out, that movement lets the rear drivetrain shift slightly, and the driver feels it as vagueness at the rear just when precision matters most. Spoon’s set holds the differential firmly in place, raising rigidity around the back of the car so the S2000 turns in sharply and tracks straight with a solid, planted feel at speed. The parts keep the factory shape, which makes this one of the simpler drivetrain jobs on the car, with no fabrication. Spoon lists the set at 4.5 kg. It is a strong early step for an S2000 driven hard on track or on challenging roads; an owner who drives gently will feel less of the benefit.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
