Why does the Crane Neck Wing for FK8 hang from above?

Downforce from a GT wing comes mainly from faster airflow under the wing compared with slower flow over it. Mounting the Crane Neck Wing for FK8 from the top, on swan-neck stays, keeps the supports away from that lower surface, which is why Spoon calls the shape the logical choice for a powerful car.

Does the wing add drag on the straights?

Yes, as any wing does, but Spoon worked to limit it. After repeated circuit testing, the stay stiffness was set so the wing bends slightly as speed rises, lowering its angle of attack near the end of a straight and cutting drag. As speed falls for the next corner, the load eases and the set angle returns.

How much does it weigh?

Spoon gives 5.5 kg for the wing, with a span of 1,510 mm. Carbon is used for the main plane, the body mounts and the end plates. The shipping carton is much larger and heavier than the wing, so the weight on a freight label is not the weight added to the rear of the car.

Is the angle adjustable?

Yes. The wing offers five angle positions. Lower settings favor straight-line speed and a calmer balance on the highway, while steeper settings add rear grip for tighter circuits. More rear downforce shifts the balance of the car toward understeer, so a matching front aero setup is worth planning on a dedicated track FK8.

Does this wing fit the FL5?

No. Spoon registers this wing for the FK8 Civic Type R only, covering cars built from September 2017 with the K20C turbo engine and 6-speed manual. The FL5 has its own Spoon crane neck wing, a wider 1,550 mm design developed with full-scale wind tunnel testing.

Description

Spoon Sports Crane Neck Wing for FK8 Honda Civic Type R

Spoon Sports’ Crane Neck Wing for FK8 Civic Type R takes its name and its stay profile from the crane in the Spoon emblem, and the shape earns its place on function as well as symbolism. A GT wing makes most of its downforce from the pressure difference between slower air over the top and faster air underneath, so hanging the 1,510 mm wing from above, swan-neck style, keeps the stays off the surface doing most of the work. Spoon calls this layout the right one for a high-power car such as the turbocharged FK8. Repeated circuit testing also set the stiffness of the stays so they flex as speed builds toward the end of a straight, easing the angle of attack and the drag that comes with it. Wing, body mounts and end plates are carbon, the angle adjusts in five steps, and the wing weighs 5.5 kg. It belongs on an FK8 that sees regular track work.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
