Spoon Sports Clutch Cover for FK7 / FL1 Honda Civic
7,300 N of clamp load for a tuned hatchback, on the factory dual-mass flywheel and with a pedal that stays easy in town
The Spoon Sports Clutch Cover for FK7 and FL1 Civic hatchback clamps with 7,300 N, about 30 percent more than the factory cover, and it is half of the clutch Spoon built when its tuned FK7 outgrew the stock unit. On the development car, a Hondata FlashPro calibration lifted the 1.5-liter turbo to 250 PS and 38 kgf-m, and that torque was more than the factory clutch could transmit. Spoon matched this cover to its high-strength fiber disc, kept the factory dual-mass flywheel, and limited the rise in pedal effort to about 10 percent, so the car remains easy to drive in town. Go Tuning sells the pair for US FK7 hatchbacks, and Spoon also registers the FL1. The cover makes sense on a tuned six-speed car or one about to be tuned; the factory clutch is adequate for an unmodified hatchback driven normally.
Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
