Is the diffuser included with the Aero Rear Bumper for AP1?

No. The diffuser is an optional extra that Go Tuning lists separately, and BA sells it as its own item. The Aero Rear Bumper for AP1 and AP2 works without it, venting air from behind the wheels and through its cutouts, but the diffuser completes the rear for owners who want the full Spoon package.

Does the bumper help cooling?

Yes. Go Tuning notes that the cutouts which let trapped air escape also help cool the rear differential and the exhaust. On an S2000 driven hard in hot weather, the differential sees sustained load on track, so extra airflow at the back of the car is a practical benefit beyond downforce.

Does it fit both AP1 and AP2?

Yes. Spoon registers it for all S2000 versions sold in Japan from 1999 to 2009, with the F20C AP1 and the F22C AP2, and Go Tuning sells it for 2000 to 2009 US model years. Spoon gives no note about modifying the rear bumper stay for this bumper, unlike the earlier S-Tai rear.

It is FRP with a white gel coat that serves as a base for paint. Start by removing the production wax with a degreaser, key the surface, and fill any pinholes before primer and color. Spoon asks for a test fit before painting, and natural drying keeps the bumper from distorting.

Why does a raised bumper create downforce?

Raising the bumper gives the air coming off the rear wheels a clear exit, so pressure does not build up behind them. Go Tuning explains that this release is what generates rear downforce on the Spoon design, which Spoon developed with CFD alongside the Aero front. The result is a cleaner, more settled rear at speed.

Description

Spoon Sports Aero Rear Bumper for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports Aero Rear Bumper for AP1 and AP2 Honda S2000 raises the bumper line so the air spilling from behind the rear wheels has somewhere to go, and Go Tuning, the US distributor for Spoon, says that release is what generates its rear downforce. Cutouts in the bumper let trapped air escape, cutting drag and helping cool the rear differential and exhaust. Spoon developed it alongside the matching Aero front with CFD analysis, drawing on what Go Tuning describes as 15 years of S2000 racing, and ran the pair in competition for a year before release. Spoon reports lower drag and better use of engine power through corners from the new aero. It is FRP with a white gel coat, listed at 15.9 kg. A separate rear diffuser is offered; the bumper works on its own, but a car chasing lap times will want both.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
