What do I need to fit the Aero Bumper Rear Diffuser?

The Spoon Aero rear bumper. Spoon states the Aero Bumper Rear Diffuser is exclusive to its Aero rear bumper, part 71501-AP1-001, so the two are usually ordered together. It is not designed for the factory S2000 bumper or for the older Spoon S-Tai rear bumper, which has its own diffuser.

How is it different from the S-Tai carbon diffuser?

They belong to different Spoon bumpers. This CFRP diffuser, listed at 2 kg, fits the newer Aero rear bumper that Spoon designed with CFD analysis. The S-Tai carbon diffuser, listed at 7 kg, fits the earlier S-Tai rear bumper. Neither one swaps onto the other bumper.

Does it really add downforce?

Spoon and Go Tuning both say so. Go Tuning describes the diffuser as adding rear downforce by channeling air from the center of the car, and Spoon reports that the full Aero bumper package outperformed its earlier S2000 aero in racing. Neither publishes a measured figure, so BA does not quote one.

Which S2000 years does it fit?

Spoon registers it for every S2000 grade it lists, from the April 1999 AP1 with the F20C to the September 2009 AP2 with the F22C. The only condition is the Spoon Aero rear bumper; with that fitted, the diffuser suits early and late cars alike.

Will the carbon need finishing?

Spoon recommends a UV-protective clear coat, since ultraviolet light can discolor carbon fiber over time. Test-fit the diffuser and the Aero bumper together first, then clear it and let it dry without heat, because a heated booth can distort the part and spoil the fit at the bumper.

Description

Spoon Sports Aero Bumper Rear Diffuser for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports Aero Bumper Rear Diffuser for AP1 and AP2 S2000 belongs to Spoon’s second generation of S2000 aero. Having developed S2000 body parts since 2007 and proven them in Super Taikyu racing, Spoon went further and designed new front and rear bumpers using CFD analysis, raced them for a season, and found they outperformed the older design despite a simpler shape. This CFRP diffuser is made exclusively for that Aero rear bumper. According to Go Tuning, Spoon’s US distributor, it adds rear downforce by channeling air from the center of the car. Spoon describes the package as cutting drag while controlling the air under the body, so the car can use more of its power on the straights and carry speed through corners, with better fuel economy as a side effect. The diffuser itself weighs only a listed 2 kg. It is a clear buy for an owner fitting the Aero rear bumper, and of no use without it.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
