Which Audi R8 does the SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust fit?

It fits the 4S Audi R8 from the 2020 model year through the end of production, with the 5.2-liter V10, including both V10 and V10 Performance trims. Owners outside North America should confirm their factory particulate filter configuration before ordering, as some markets differ.

How does it change the sound?

The system runs two modes. With the valves open it uses the full 3-inch path for a louder, sharper note with crackle on overrun. With the valves closed, exhaust passes through a chambered muffler and internal X-pipe for a quieter, low-drone tone. The modes switch electronically at the press of a button.

Does it require an ECU tune?

No. The SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust is a direct bolt-on and does not need a tune to work with the R8's engine management. Many owners add a tune to chase more power, but none is required for the exhaust to deliver its sound and weight savings.

How much lighter is it than the factory exhaust?

The SOUL system weighs 34.8 lbs against 68.9 lbs for the factory rear section, a reduction of 34.1 lbs (15.46 kg). That weight comes off the rear of the car, and the saving comes from T304L stainless construction and a bespoke chambered muffler in place of the heavy factory unit.

What is it made from?

It is built from mandrel-bent 0.060-inch wall T304L stainless steel, with CNC and water-jet-cut flanges held to a ±0.003-inch tolerance and back-purged TIG welds in ARCAL Prime argon. SOUL fabricates every system in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

Is professional installation recommended?

Yes. SOUL recommends professional installation to ensure correct fitment and a proper seal on the factory connections. All installation hardware is included, and the system is backed by a fitment guarantee.

Description

SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust System for 4S Audi R8

SOUL Performance Products’ Valved Exhaust System for the 2020+ Audi R8 delivers the race-bred V10 soundtrack the car deserves while preserving true dual-personality manners, routing gases through full 3″ T304L stainless piping for an intense, crackling roar with the valves open, or through a bespoke SOUL chambered muffler with an internal X-pipe for enhanced tone with minimal drone when closed. Built in-house at SOUL’s Willow Grove, Pennsylvania facility from mandrel-bent.060″ wall T304L stainless with CNC-machined flanges, back-purged TIG welds, and thick-gauge aluminum fixtures for precise, warp-free fitment, the system sheds roughly 34.1lbs over the factory rear section, sharpening response and reducing weight. Thoroughly quality-checked, foam-packed for safe shipment, and backed by Soul Performance Products’ Lifetime Warranty, it transforms the R8 into a car that can be refined and discreet on command, or unapologetically aggressive at the touch of a button.

Research & Development

The original factory exhaust system exceeds a weight of 58lbs and incorporates several chambers, but it fails to deliver an authentic, race car-inspired exhaust note. One of their standout exhaust offerings is the Audi Race Exhaust System, which has gained immense popularity due to its unmatched V10 roar. They have received requests to develop a muted system that can reproduce the same captivating sound while providing a more refined option at the touch of a button.
Their objective is to enhance the presence and character of the exhaust note within the cabin while ensuring a reasonable level of resonance and drone in both the valves closed and open modes. This is achieved through their renowned drone fighting capabilities, which have become their signature. Remarkably, this innovative system manages to reduce the weight by over 34lbs, further enhancing the vehicle’s performance and agility.
When the valves are closed, the exhaust system is directed through a custom-designed SOUL chambered muffler, featuring an internal X-Pipe that perfectly aligns with their sound objectives. This exceptional muffler has been meticulously crafted to uphold their esteemed reputation for creating mufflers that effectively combat drone issues, a trait well-known in the Porsche community. While they also tested a more traditional muffler design with a perforated core, the carefully engineered chambers of the final muffler deliver a more aggressive sound during both acceleration and deceleration, effectively minimizing undesirable tones.
With the valves open, the exhaust flow is unrestricted, allowing it to exit through 3″ piping, resulting in a thunderous roar. Secondary flow through the muffler and X-Pipe diminishes raspiness and refines the exhaust note, producing a higher-pitched and more sophisticated sound. The outcome is the realization of two distinct and enjoyable sound modes, a mild option and a wild one.

Construction

Every system is meticulously crafted using mandrel bent T304L stainless steel tubing with a robust.060″ wall thickness. CNC machined flanges and laser-cut brackets are employed to guarantee precision and durability. Back purged TIG welding, utilizing ARCAL Prime argon gas, ensures optimal weld penetration and longevity. The water jet cut flanges adhere to ISO 9001:2015 standards, exhibiting exceptional precision with tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches.
To maintain utmost accuracy, they fabricate each exhaust using thick gauge aluminum fixtures. These fixtures not only act as efficient heat sinks during the welding process but also safeguard against warping, ensuring perfect fitment for both their products and the fixtures themselves.

Bolt On & Go

Prior to shipping, each individual component undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure its impeccable condition. To further safeguard against any potential damage during transit, they are meticulously foam packed, guaranteeing that they arrive in perfect condition.
Moreover, they provide everything necessary for a comprehensive installation, leaving no essential components or accessories behind. With their commitment to delivering a hassle-free experience, you can rest assured that all the required items are included to facilitate a complete installation.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. Please review the full Terms & Conditions here.

BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
