SOUL Performance Competition Headers for 996 Porsche 911 Carrera
SOUL Performance’s Competition Headers for 996 Porsche 911 Carrera replace the restrictive factory manifolds with equal-length T304L stainless runners and a true 3-into-1 merge collector, the collector the factory part never had. SOUL hand-builds and port-matches every set in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, with smooth large-radius bends that feed each primary evenly into the collector, then proves the fit on an aluminum fixture before it ships. Because the 996 carries its catalytic converters in the rear exhaust, these headers improve flow straight off the cylinder heads without touching the emissions system, so the gain is cleaner midrange torque and a sharper response with no effect on sound quality or check-engine lights. For the 996 owner who wants a genuine, bolt-on improvement that respects how the car was built, this is one of the most rewarding upgrades on the engine, and it is backed for life.
Development and Testing
SOUL started from the factory header’s weaknesses: no true collector, abrupt bends, and an uneven path into the exhaust. The redesign smooths the flange-to-primary interface, runs large-radius primaries of equal length, and brings them together in a true 3-into-1 collector so each cylinder contributes evenly, with extra volume tuned for the 3.6-liter S engine. Every set is checked on a fixture for fitment before it leaves the shop.
Construction
The headers are built entirely from T304L stainless steel with port-matched flanges and smooth-radius primaries, hand-fabricated and quality-checked before shipping. Each set comes in about 2 pounds lighter than the factory components it replaces, and is foam-packed to arrive ready to install.
Power and Sound
The equal-length runners and true collector improve exhaust flow from the heads, and owners report stronger torque across the rpm range rather than one peaky spike. Because the factory rear exhaust and its emissions equipment stay in place, the tone sharpens without drone and without the drawbacks that come from altering the emissions system, so the car sounds like a better version of itself rather than a different car.
Bolt-On and Go
Each set ships with installation instructions, and the job is within reach of most DIY owners working with the car safely supported. A proper seal at the flanges matters on any header, so anyone without the tools or the time will be well served by a professional install.

The factory catalytic converters sit in the 996’s rear exhaust and stay in place, so the headers do not alter the emissions system or set a check-engine light
An ECU tune is not required, though many owners add one to get the most from the headers
Not CARB certified and intended for closed-course competition use; it may not be legal for registered vehicles in California and similarly regulated states
Covered by the SOUL Lifetime Warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the original owner, street and track
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the SOUL Performance Competition Headers for 996 fit the Carrera 4 and 4S? Yes. They fit the naturally aspirated 996 Carrera, Carrera 4, and Carrera 4S from 1999 to 2004, covering both the 3.4-liter and 3.6-liter flat-six. They are not designed for the 996 Turbo, GT3, or GT2, which use a different engine, so confirm your model before ordering.
Will these headers cause a check-engine light or affect emissions? No. The SOUL Performance Competition Headers for 996 sit upstream of the catalytic converters, which the 996 carries in its rear exhaust, so they improve flow from the cylinder heads without altering the factory emissions system or setting a check-engine light when installed correctly.
How much power do they add? SOUL does not publish a dyno figure for this set, so we will not invent one. The equal-length runners and true 3-into-1 collector are built to raise exhaust flow from the heads, and owners report stronger midrange torque across the rpm range, with added volume on the 3.6-liter engine.
Do they change the sound? They sharpen the flat-six tone and add a little volume without drone, since the factory rear muffler and catalytic converters stay in place. The result is a cleaner, more purposeful sound rather than a dramatically louder one, and it builds with rpm.
Is an ECU tune required? No. The headers work as a standalone bolt-on and deliver their midrange flow gains on the stock tune. Many owners add a tune later to get the most from the headers and other supporting modifications, but it is not needed for the headers to work.
Are these headers street legal? No. They are not CARB certified and are sold for closed-course competition use, so they may not be legal for registered vehicles in California and similarly regulated states. Check your local regulations before driving on public roads.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy
-+
Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well.
For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
