Öhlins Road & Track suspension systems for the BMW F87 M2 Competition, CS are engineered to provide the ideal balance of track capability and street comfort. We have utilized over 40 years of experience in the motorsport and OE industries to produce a package that incorporates patented technology with OE levels of quality and longevity. Our tuning philosophy is applied to each particular application to extract the most performance while still maintaining ride quality. One way Öhlins achieves this balance is our patented Dual Flow Valve. The DFV provides an additional oil bypass when bumps get severe. Engineers can tune the damper for increased support when turning and braking while maintaining composure over track curbing and rough pavement. This technology allows the use of linear spring rates (just like a motorsport application) for further chassis support without affecting daily comfort. Another feature is the damping adjustability via a single “clicker” knob that proportionally increases compression and rebound damping to best suit the driver’s needs. Whether it’s a smooth track or a weekly commute, the dampers can be adjusted within their usable range to best suit track or street conditions. In other words, an engineering degree isn’t necessary each time an adjustment is necessary. The BMW F82 M4 front shocks utilize monotube DFV struts with separate spring preload and height adjustment. For the rear, inverted, aluminum DFV shocks come with height adjustable spring perches. Separating spring preload from height adjustment allows precise height adjustment without affecting suspension travel. Considering the F82 M4 is already tuned as a high performance street car with track capability, Öhlins took the approach most drivers will utilize track-oriented tires and tailored the suspension to match. The tuning approach minimizes understeer without the necessity of aggressive alignment settings or wide front tire fitments, while still maintaining safety and comfort on the street.
Will the Ohlins DFV Road & Track suspension fit the F87 BMW M2 Competition and M2 CS? The Ohlins DFV Road & Track suspension fits the BMW M2 Competition (F87) from 2018 to 2021 and the BMW M2 CS (F87) from 2020 to 2021. If you have questions about your specific build, contact Bulletproof Automotive before ordering.
What is the DFV and how does it work on the F87 M2? DFV stands for Dual Flow Valve; a patented Ohlins technology that provides an additional oil bypass when bumps become severe. On the F87 M2, this allows engineers to tune the damper for increased support during cornering and braking while maintaining composure over track curbing and rough pavement. It also enables the use of linear spring rates for additional chassis support without sacrificing daily comfort.
How is the damping adjusted on the F87 M2 Ohlins kit? Damping is adjusted via a single knob that proportionally increases both compression and rebound damping together. This keeps the adjustment process straightforward; no engineering background required. The range covers both track and street use, so drivers can dial in the right setting for the conditions without complicated multi-step adjustments.
How does the front and rear setup differ on the F87 M2 kit? The front uses monotube DFV struts with separate spring preload and height adjustment. The rear uses inverted aluminum DFV shocks with height-adjustable spring perches. Separating spring preload from height adjustment on both ends allows precise ride height changes without affecting suspension travel.
Was this suspension tuned specifically for track use on the F87 M2? Yes. Ohlins tuned this kit with the expectation that most drivers will run track-oriented tires, tailoring the suspension to minimize understeer without requiring aggressive alignment settings or wider front tire fitments, while still maintaining safety and comfort for street driving.
