The Fabspeed Motorsport Valvetronic Nordschleife Cat-Back Exhaust System introduces the 992 GT3 to an authentic and exotic sports car sound, all while preserving the functionality of Porsche’s Sport Exhaust valvetronic push-button system (PSE). Their meticulous design process commenced with the comprehensive 3D laser scanning of the entire OEM exhaust system and the underside of the GT3’s flat 6 engine, utilizing the Creaform 700 Handscan. This allowed for the creation of a precise Solidworks 3D model of the exhaust. The subsequent CAD design phase, built upon this model, ensuring a seamless fit in line with Porsche Motorsport’s exacting standards. After numerous iterations, focusing on sound optimization and incremental dyno testing, they arrived at the decision to incorporate their signature cast 70mm 2.75″ x-pipe. This choice facilitated the synchronization of the two cylinder banks, aiding in exhaust scavenging and mitigating resonance. The exhaust valves employed are sourced from Helical Limited, a reputable manufacturer in the United Kingdom known for producing aerospace-quality exhaust valves. These valves, certified under ISO 9001, are the same trusted by renowned brands like Ferrari, McLaren, Pagani, Koeniggseeg, and Porsche for their GT cars. Fabspeed’s exhaust systems are crafted in-house, utilizing mandrel-bent T304 stainless steel, and they offer a selection of five different tip options to cater to individual preferences.

Sound

• When PSE (Porsche sport exhaust) is deactivated, the valvetronic exhaust system offers a subtle increase in volume. However, when PSE is activated, it transforms the exhaust note of the 4.0L engine into a truly exotic sound, marked by a significant volume boost. The exhaust note evolves from the smooth purr of the OEM exhaust to the aggressive and race-bred snarl reminiscent of a 911 CUP car. The investment cast x-pipe, meticulously designed through CAD, plays a pivotal role in delivering the high-pitched and sporty sound characteristic of the GT3 sports car. Fabspeed’s commitment to excellence is underscored by their approach, involving the design and construction of four different exhaust systems to ensure they deliver only the very best in terms of both sports car sound and maximum power.

Power

• This exhaust system enhances Porsche’s original design by increasing the pipe diameter from 2.5 inches to 2.75 inches (70mm) and replacing the factory h-pipe with our signature cast x-pipe. Through DynoJet testing, it revealed substantial benefits, yielding a remarkable +17.5 crank hp or +14whp (representing horsepower at the wheels) at 4200rpm. Additionally, there was a notable increase in torque at the lower end, with a gain of 17 ft/lbs at 4200rpm. These performance enhancements deliver a tangible improvement in driving experience, accompanied by significant rear weight reduction. It’s important to note that a 3″ x-pipe resulted in a loss of 15ft/lbs of torque and a decrease of -10hp compared to the 70mm option, highlighting the superiority of the latter choice. It’s a clear case of “buyer beware,” as larger is unequivocally not the right direction to take.
