CSF acknowledges that when it comes to the Porsche 911, few generations stir as much passion and controversy as the 964 and 993. These two generations represent the final chapters of the air-cooled era, and Porsche worked to bridge the gap between classic design and modern performance. However, several challenges proved difficult to overcome. Both the 964 and 993 ran hotter than earlier air-cooled 911s due to increased performance output, stricter emissions regulations, and limited engine bay space. CSF notes that Porsche was truly pushing the limits of air / oil cooling, especially given the technology and design constraints of the time. Building on the success and strong response to the CSF 911 / 930 Turbo Fender Oil Cooler, CSF has expanded its Porsche performance lineup with a modern OEM+ upgrade for the last of the air-cooled 911s — introducing the all-new CSF OEM+ Performance Engine Oil Cooler for the Porsche 964 and 993.

Design & Engineering

To develop a truly modern cooling solution for the 964 and 993, CSF once again partnered with the Porsche engine building and restoration specialists at SV Auto. Their extensive expertise in air-cooled engine restoration and performance provided CSF with critical insight that directly influenced the design of this next-generation cooler. Leveraging proven technology from the best-selling G-Body Engine Oil Cooler — a project that required over 18 months of development and more than $20,000 in R&D — CSF brings advanced modern engineering to the 911 platform with this release.
Engineered to integrate seamlessly into concours-level restorations, the CSF oil cooler delivers factory-style appearance alongside cutting-edge performance and construction. Whether the build is a restored classic 964 / 993, a high-horsepower resto-mod, or a track-prepped machine, CSF offers the ultimate OEM+ performance cooling solution for air-cooled Porsche 911s.

M30 x 1.5 High-Flow Fittings

CSF drew further inspiration from its proven 911 / 930 Turbo Fender Oil Cooler, incorporating a similarly engineered set of Widemouth fittings. These precision-machined, threaded M30 Widemouth fittings feature an optimized inner diameter designed to substantially improve oil flow.
These upgraded fittings deliver up to 50% greater flow capacity compared to standard OEM connections. Each fitting is crafted in-house from high-strength stainless steel to ensure maximum durability, pressure resistance, and long-term reliability. For added assurance and ease of installation, CSF pre-installs the fittings using high-quality copper crush washers to ensure a leak-free seal.

CSF vs OEM

CSF recognizes that the original Längerer & Reich oil cooler for the Porsche 964 and 993, developed in the 1980s, has begun to show its age. While replacements are still available through the Porsche Classic program, CSF points out that these OEM units are manufactured using the same outdated materials and design specifications as the originals. Replacing a clogged or failing cooler with a factory unit may temporarily resolve the issue, but it does not offer any meaningful improvements in cooling performance or long-term reliability.
CSF constructs its oil cooler from TIG-welded, 100% aluminum to significantly enhance strength and durability. This robust design ensures confidence under demanding conditions and spirited driving. The cooler is engineered as a true “drop-in fit” solution, mounting in the factory location and fully compatible with the OEM fan and A/C condenser — no modifications or cutting required. CSF also refined the fan shroud mounting locations for improved fitment and easier installation.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
