The do88 Performance BigPack Intercooler Kit for the 991.2 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S represents the next phase in intercooler innovation. Originally launched in 2018 with a Tube & Fin core praised for its excellent cooling, airflow, and lightweight design, this kit has proven its capabilities in builds exceeding 1000 hp. In 2022, do88 took this upgrade further by incorporating a motorsport-grade Bar & Plate core from Garrett, enhancing cooling performance and airflow efficiency. Featuring 13% higher airflow compared to the previous version, the updated kit includes lighter air ducts made from premium prepreg carbon. While the advanced core adds 3.1kg per intercooler, the end tanks and accessories remain unchanged, ensuring seamless integration and unmatched performance for high-powered 991.2 Porsche models.

Performance

The intercoolers are equipped with cast end tanks that precisely distribute airflow across the entire core, optimizing both pressure drop and cooling efficiency. To accommodate an appropriately thick intercooler, a new upper ambient air guide was developed, designed within a 3D-scanned environment to ensure a perfect fit with the vehicle-integrated air guides and the intercooler. To eliminate bottlenecks, the intercooler connections are sized at 70mm, allowing unrestricted airflow. Each position includes new 3D-designed hoses optimized for maximum airflow and verified through CFD testing. The turbo outlet hoses are constructed from high-temperature material, capable of withstanding continuous temperatures up to 464°F. Additionally, the carbon ducts feature proper seals to ensure all heat-transferring ambient air is directed through the core, preventing air from escaping around it and maximizing cooling efficiency.
The weight increase compared to the OEM units is relatively minimal, especially considering the substantial size of the intercoolers and their all-aluminum, dense construction. Each do88 intercooler weighs 18.74lbs, compared to 6.83lbs for the OEM intercooler. While this represents a notable weight difference, the significant performance gains provided by these intercoolers more than justify the increase.

Y-Pipe

At the start of the development process for this product, significant consideration was given to determining the optimal design for a Y-pipe. The result is a pipe that combines excellent flow efficiency with minimal weight. This design features mandrel-bent lightweight pipes connected by a high-quality, 3D freeform-designed cast joint. CNC-machined connections for the BOV and breather hoses are welded onto the cast section, ensuring precision and durability. This construction delivers substantial performance improvements while adding only a small amount of extra weight.

Testing

Initially, five runs were conducted with the car equipped with OEM intercoolers. The intercoolers were then quickly swapped for the do88 units, followed by a brief shakedown and another five runs performed under identical conditions. The results showed a significant reduction in inlet air temperature, with a peak delta of 30.6°F, as illustrated in the accompanying graph. Both cooling and airflow play a crucial role in performance, and extensive development went into refining the end tanks and selecting a core to meet demanding performance requirements. The result is an intercooler that offers superior heat transfer and airflow efficiency. Verified using the in-house Superflow SF-1020 Probench, airflow was evaluated as a complete system, including intercoolers, hoses, and the Y-pipe, for both the do88 BigPack and the OEM 991 units. The outcome is true, proven performance.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest.
