Is the 2.7L Silver Factory Intercooler package street legal in California?

Yes. Two California Air Resources Board Executive Orders, D-660-62 and D-660-245, apply to this package, so the Accessport V3 and the 2.7L Silver Factory Intercooler are approved for sale and use on emissions controlled vehicles in all 50 states, provided installation follows the COBB application guide.

Is the silver version different from the black version apart from color?

No. COBB lists the silver and black factory location intercoolers with the same description, core volume, cooling surface and fitment, and both packages ship with the same AP3-FOR-008 Accessport, vehicle badge and CARB sticker. Pick whichever finish you prefer, since performance and installation are identical.

Will the factory intake need to change?

No. This No Intake package leaves the stock airbox, filter and tubing in place, and nothing in the box replaces them. The contents are the Accessport V3, the silver intercooler, a COBB vehicle badge and the CARB sticker. Review the COBB map notes to pick the calibration that matches that hardware.

How much bigger is it than the stock intercooler?

COBB states the core offers about 70 percent more volume than the Ford unit and 10 percent more cooling surface area. COBB also calls the stock F-150 EcoBoost intercooler undersized and prone to heat soak, so the added volume and surface help keep charge air cooler through towing, long grades and repeated hard acceleration.

Can I go back to stock later?

Yes. The Accessport Uninstall option on the main menu returns the engine and transmission module to its original calibration. Because the intercooler needs no cutting or permanent modification, keeping the Ford unit lets you reverse the hardware swap as well, which is useful at trade-in time or before a dealer visit.

Description

COBB Tuning 2.7L Silver Factory Intercooler Stage 2 Kit for P552 Ford F-150

COBB Tuning’s 2.7L Silver Factory Intercooler Stage 2 Kit suits the F-150 owner who wants a bigger intercooler without cutting anything: the 7F1527-SL silver cast aluminum unit drops into the stock location on a 2018-2020 2.7L EcoBoost truck, and the AP3-FOR-008 Accessport V3 calibrates engine and transmission together. Street use in all 50 states is covered by CARB EO D-660-62 and D-660-245. COBB rates the core at 70 percent more volume and 10 percent more cooling area than the Ford part. No intake is supplied, so the factory one stays.

Construction

Each 2.7L Silver Factory Intercooler is a TIG welded aluminum casting designed in house by COBB. Computational fluid dynamics guided the end tank shape so flow spreads evenly across the core, and the outlet carries a generous chamfer for a smooth exit into the throttle body tube. It presses snugly against the OEM shutter shroud, and two flat sections in the casting accept a water or methanol injection nozzle and a drain once drilled and tapped.

Features

Silver cast aluminum intercooler, TIG welded, for the original mounting position
Roughly 70 percent more core volume and 10 percent more cooling surface than stock
Bolts in with no cutting, trimming or permanent modification
Accessport V3 with a large color screen monitoring up to six parameters
Custom ECU features include Auto Start-Stop disabling and Valet Mode

50-state legal with CARB EO D-660-62 and D-660-245 when installed per the COBB application guide
No intake system is included; the stock airbox and tubing stay on the truck

About COBB Tuning

COBB Tuning was founded by Trey Cobb in 1999 in Rockwall, Texas, as a Subaru performance shop in the back of his father’s tire shop, and is now headquartered in Austin, Texas. In 2004 COBB introduced the Accessport, a handheld ECU tuning device that flashes COBB’s off-the-shelf maps or a custom tune and doubles as a real-time gauge and datalogger. The range has since grown from Subaru to Ford, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota platforms, with intakes, intercoolers, exhausts and flex fuel kits engineered alongside the tuning, and many COBB parts carry California Air Resources Board Executive Order numbers for use in all 50 states.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
