Do the Black Series Coilovers for AP1 cars fit the AP2?

No. Both the Japanese and the North American product pages list the Black Series Coilovers for AP1 cars as an AP1-only kit, and no AP2 fitment is given. Owners of 2004 to 2009 AP2 cars should ask Bulletproof Automotive to check with the US distributor before ordering rather than assume the AP1 kit will fit.

How stiff are the springs?

Both ends use 12 kg/mm springs, roughly 672 lb/in, with a 65mm inner diameter. The front springs have a 200mm free length and the rears 175mm. The manufacturer states these rates are higher than a typical street coilover, which allows a lower ride height and gives a balance chosen for cornering.

Is it too firm for daily driving?

That depends on the driver. The manufacturer describes the RS as a high-spec street damper that puts sports driving ahead of comfort, and the spring rates sit above those of a typical street kit. The damping range lets you soften the response, but anyone who wants a plush commute may prefer a softer setup.

Can the dampers be rebuilt?

Yes. The manufacturer states that every Black Series Damper RS can be overhauled, and replacement damper cartridges are offered for the front and rear. When the Black Series Coilovers for AP1 cars need attention, Bulletproof Automotive can request service or cartridges through the US distributor.

How is damping adjusted?

Damping is set with the supplied hex wrench across 15 steps, so the car can be tuned for a particular circuit, road or weather. Turn the adjuster gently, as the manufacturer warns that the wrench can apply excess force and damage the shaft. Ride height is set separately with the included height wrench.

Description

J’s Racing Black Series Coilovers for AP1 Honda S2000

J’s Racing’s Black Series Coilovers for AP1 S2000s are the first coilover the Osaka tuner designed entirely in house, sold in Japan as the Black Series Damper RS and shaped by more than 20 years of race setup work in Super Taikyu and other series. J’s Racing calls the RS a high-spec street damper: its springs are stiffer than those of a typical height-adjustable kit, so the car can sit lower, and the front and rear rates are balanced for cornering. With 12 kg/mm springs at each corner and 15 damping steps, it suits an AP1 driven hard on mountain roads and at track days; an owner who mostly commutes and wants a soft ride will find it firmer than necessary.

The first fully original coilover developed by J’s Racing
Spring rates above a typical street kit, with a cornering-biased front to rear balance
15-step damping adjustment for different circuits, roads and conditions
Full-length adjustable monotube bodies with a shortened case and stroke, so lowering does not cost bump travel
Every damper can be overhauled, and replacement cartridges are sold separately

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
