Which cars need extra parts with the Twin-Block Caliper Set for DC2?

Cars with a factory front rotor of 282 mm or smaller need the Spoon large-diameter front brake rotor. The EG6, GE8 and GK5 need that rotor plus the Spoon inner spacer set, and the ZF1 and ZF2 CR-Z need the Spoon slotted front brake rotor.

How much weight does the set save?

Spoon quotes 5.2 kg for each factory caliper and 2.4 kg for each Twin-Block caliper, a saving of 2.8 kg at each front corner. As unsprung mass, that is the whole point of the Twin-Block Caliper Set for DC2: better tire contact and less load on brakes and tires.

What wheels clear the Twin-Block calipers?

Spoon does not publish a wheel list. An opposed caliper has pistons on the outer side too, so it is wider than the factory caliper and can touch some wheels. Spacers can cure contact but may push the tire past the fender, so check at the installing shop first.

What brake pads does the set use?

The Twin-Block caliper takes the same pad shape as the factory EK9 front caliper, so replacement pads are widely available. Spoon does not list pads in the set, so buy a compound that suits how the car is used, from street to dedicated track.

Is the set a good choice for a street car?

Yes, if the car is driven with intent. The lighter calipers and finer modulation are felt on a fast road as well as a circuit. For a commuter that never works the brakes hard, the cost and possible rotor or spacer purchase make it hard to justify.

Description

Spoon Sports Twin-Block Caliper Set for DC2 / DB8 Honda Integra, EG6 / EK4 / EK9 Civic, GE8 / GK5 Fit and ZF1 / ZF2 CR-Z

Spoon Sports’ Twin-Block Caliper Set for DC2 and DB8 Integra Type R, EK9 Civic Type R and lighter Hondas from the Fit to the CR-Z was designed around one goal, cutting unsprung weight. Each caliper weighs 2.4 kg against the 5.2 kg Spoon quotes for the factory unit, and that saving sits at the wheel, where it changes how well the tire follows the road. An opposed four-piston layout with two piston diameters lets the driver make small, precise inputs at the pedal, and Spoon reports reduced load on brakes and tires. The set bolts on to the EK9 and the 1998-specification DC2 and DB8 and takes the EK9 factory pad shape. It suits a light Honda driven hard; for a commuter, the gain will not justify the cost.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
