How much do the GiroDisc Rear Rotors for FK8 and FL5 weigh?

GiroDisc puts the GiroDisc Rear Rotors for FK8 and FL5 at about 8.8 lb per rotor, against about 10.7 lb for the factory rear disc. That is close to 2 lb less rotating and unsprung mass at each rear corner of the Civic Type R.

Does the rear rotor fit the FK2 Type R?

No. GiroDisc lists this rear rotor for the FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R only. The front rotor, A1-166, does cover the FK2, but the rear part has not been listed for that generation, so FK2 owners should not order it for the rear axle.

Are the FK8 rear calipers reused?

Yes. The rotor is a direct replacement for the factory rear disc and works with the original calipers. No modification is needed, so the rear brake bias Honda designed and the efficiency of the ABS are unchanged after the swap.

Which rings fit the Type R rear hats when they wear?

GiroDisc lists D2-166 as the replacement ring pair for the FK8 and FL5 rear rotor. The rings come with new hardware and bolt to the existing aluminum hats, so only the iron is replaced as the rear brakes wear over time.

How tight do the Type R rear cap screws go?

No more than 60 in-lb, or 7 Nm. The floating mount is designed to allow slight movement between ring and hat, so the cap screws are set lightly and may look loose. Overtightening them would work against the float the design depends on.

Description

GiroDisc Rear Rotors for FK8 and FL5 Honda Civic Type R

GiroDisc’s Rear Rotors for FK8 and FL5 Honda Civic Type R weigh about 8.8 lb each, against approximately 10.7 lb for the factory rear disc, by GiroDisc’s numbers. The saving is smaller than at the front, but it comes off a rear axle that has little weight on it to begin with. Each assembly floats GiroDisc’s own iron ring on a 6061-T6 aluminum hat and bolts on with the original calipers. Owners who have fitted GiroDisc fronts to an FK8 or FL5 can complete the car with this pair.

Bolt-On and Go

The GiroDisc Rear Rotors for FK8 and FL5 are a direct replacement: off come the stock discs, on go the new assemblies, and the factory calipers refit without modification. Brake bias and ABS efficiency are unchanged. Ten alloy steel drive pins, cadmium plated and held by class 12.9 cap screws, join ring and hat, and spring washers on the pins keep the ring quiet when the brakes are cold.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
