Do the Carbon Racing Mirrors for EK4 also fit the EK9 Type R?

Yes. Spoon registers the Carbon Racing Mirrors for EK4 and EK9 for the EK4 Civic SiR and the EK9 Civic Type R, both before and after the September 1998 facelift. The same pair suits every EK car on the Spoon record, from the 1995 SiR II to the final 2000 Type R.

Is this the same mirror Spoon sold in the 1990s?

It is the revival of it. Spoon reissued the Carbon Racing Mirror after many requests, re-engineering the housing in dry carbon from new precision molds and fitting wider 1200R optical blue glass. The silhouette follows the original, so it suits a period-correct build while benefiting from newer materials.

No. They are fixed, and Spoon notes that the non-folding design does not meet Japanese safety standards for road cars. That suits a circuit-focused EK, though a fixed mirror needs more care in tight garages and car parks, where a folding factory mirror would simply swing in.

How long is the wait for a set?

Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, lists the EK mirror as pre-order only, with a lead time of more than eight months. Spoon produces it in batches rather than holding stock. BA confirms the current timing when the order is placed.

Do they need painting?

No. The dry carbon housing comes clear coated from Spoon and is meant to be seen. Spoon does recommend additional UV-protective clear for long-term color stability. Any extra coating should be applied after a test-fit and left to air dry below 40 degrees C, since heat can distort the carbon.

Description

Spoon Sports Carbon Racing Mirrors for EK4 / EK9 Honda Civic

The Spoon Sports Carbon Racing Mirrors for EK4 and EK9 Civic are the revival edition of a part many owners thought they would only ever find second-hand. Spoon first sold the Carbon Racing Mirror for the EG6 about thirty years ago and then added the EK4, EK9 and DC2 to the range, and the mirror won followers worldwide. After years of requests for a reissue, Spoon put it back into production with a housing re-engineered in dry carbon from new precision molds, clear coated and stamped with a discreet SPOONSPORTS logo on top. The glass is widened to a 1200R curvature with an optical blue coating that takes the glare out of headlights behind. A compact, dedicated electric motor sets the angle, and each mirror is assembled on a base plate for the EK. The mirrors do not fold, which Spoon notes keeps them outside Japanese road safety standards. On an EK9 or EK4 SiR built for the circuit, they are the authentic finishing touch.

The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
