The Nitron BMW 1 Series NTR-R3 Coilover Kit is built for the E8x that has outgrown a single-dial damper and is being driven hard enough to need real control over how it manages weight. A compact, front-engine, rear-drive 1 Series with near-even weight balance rewards a driver who gives it real inputs, and it exposes the limits of a combined compression and rebound adjuster quickly once the springs go firmer and the car sees regular track time. Nitron’s NTR-R3 separates those adjustments, with independent high and low speed compression and rebound at each corner, so the slow movements of weight transfer under braking and cornering can be set apart from the sharp hits of curbs and rough pavement. Remote hose reservoirs front and rear add oil capacity so damping holds through long sessions, and the reservoirs can be mounted away from the damper body where there’s more room for them. The kit fits the E81, E82, and E87, and the rear can be specified as either a coilover or a divorced setup to match how the car is built and driven.

Coilover or Divorced Rear Suspension

The rear of an E8x carries its spring and damper as separate components from the factory, and the Nitron NTR-R3 leaves that decision to the owner. A divorced rear keeps the spring and damper apart in their original positions, preserving the factory spring location and load path while the Nitron damper does the work of controlling the wheel. A coilover rear wraps the spring around the damper as one unit, the conventional layout many owners prefer for a track-oriented setup. The front is a coilover unit at each strut either way, and the choice only changes how the rear is built.

Specialized Bi-Axis Hose Fittings

The reservoir hoses on the Nitron NTR-R3 for the 993 connect through Nitron’s Bi-Axis fittings, which pivot through 720 degrees at both the damper and the reservoir end instead of locking the hose into a single angle. A 993 working through stiff race springs and long travel, particularly a GT2 or Turbo carrying real weight over the rear axle, keeps those hoses in constant motion, and a fixed-angle fitting forces the hose to twist or bend sharply where it exits. The Bi-Axis design lets each hose follow the damper naturally from full droop to full compression at all four corners, which keeps the lines free of kinks and extends the life of the fittings themselves. They also work alongside the dry-break connections on the front hoses, so the hose can still be released from the damper cleanly for service without losing the freedom of movement that protects it on the road or track.

Unique Technology

Each Nitron NTR-R3 damper is a monotube design pressurized with nitrogen gas, which keeps the oil from aerating and holds damping consistent as temperatures climb. The piston and shim work came out of motorsport programs and is tuned for the weight and spring rates of an E8x rather than borrowed from a generic BMW curve, and the separate hose-fed reservoirs give the oil room to work through repeated hard laps without fading.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
