Does the Prima PLUS Supercharger Kit for E46 fit a 6-speed manual M3?

No. This listing covers E46 M3s with the SMG transmission only. Owners of a 6-speed manual car should contact BA before ordering, and anyone who already runs a Prima kit can add the PLUS hardware through the separate upgrade kit, which is offered for both transmissions.

Does the Prima PLUS need an intercooler?

No. The Prima PLUS runs without a front-mount intercooler and relies on water/methanol injection and precise tuning to control charge temperature and detonation at 9.5 psi. That keeps the front of the car free of intercooler plumbing while the tank sits in the trunk.

What happens if the water/methanol tank runs low?

The integrated wiring includes a fail-safe. If the fluid level runs low, or the engine sees excessive detonation, the system drops boost back to 6.0 psi automatically to protect the S54. Normal output returns once the cause is corrected and the tank is refilled.

What fuel does the kit need?

The Prima PLUS operates on 93 octane pump fuel, the same fuel Active Autowerke used for its dyno testing, with water/methanol injection supplying the extra detonation margin. The software is tuned to the designated boost levels of 9.0 and 9.5 psi.

How much power does it make?

Active Autowerke measured 465 rear-wheel horsepower with the Prima PLUS Supercharger Kit for E46 M3 on a stock-engine car running 93 octane with headers, a section 1 and a rear exhaust. It quotes engine output at 550+ horsepower and 393 lb-ft at 8100 rpm, against 333 horsepower for a standard car.

Description

Active Autowerke Prima PLUS Supercharger Kit for E46 BMW M3

Active Autowerke’s Prima PLUS Supercharger Kit for E46 BMW M3 combines the non-intercooled Prima supercharger with the PLUS water/methanol system and matched software, letting the S54 run 9.5 psi on 93 octane pump fuel. Active Autowerke developed the PLUS with Frank Smith of Tuning Tech FS in Maryland over many dyno sessions, each one data-logged and checked for lean and rich conditions. On that program a stock-engine E46 M3 reached 465 wheel horsepower, against roughly 265 for a standard car. It is the one-purchase route to the strongest Prima result; a car already running a Prima Supercharger Kit needs only the PLUS upgrade kit.

How It Works

The supercharger is a centrifugal unit on a conventional fixed drive pulley, but the PLUS adds selectable boost settings of 9.0 and 9.5 psi. A switch brings the water/methanol system and the higher setting into play, and the fail-safe wiring drops boost back to 6.0 psi if the fluid runs low or the engine detects excessive detonation.

Features

Complete water/methanol system with a pump whose internal seals and nozzles are made for methanol
Dedicated water/methanol tank mounted in the trunk on its own holding base
Mounting that leaves the factory trunk space usable on coupes
Integrated wiring with built-in fail-safe protection
Software tuned to each of the designated boost levels
Detailed step-by-step installation instructions

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
