Does the Black Edition include a recirculation hose?

No. Like the silver kit it vents to atmosphere. Recirculation is sold separately as the HKS Suction Return Kit, part number 71002-AH004. HKS offers a factory bundle of valve and return kit only in the silver finish, so a black valve with recirculation means ordering the two parts individually.

Is the black finish durable in engine bay heat?

HKS uses the same aluminium valve body as the silver version with a black finish applied, and rates it for the same underbonnet environment. The valve sits away from the exhaust side in the FL5 bay by design, in the visible position HKS drew the adapter and bracket around.

Does it sound the same as the silver valve?

HKS Super SQV IV Kit Black Edition for FL5 Honda Civic Type R

HKS’s SQV IV Kit Black Edition for the FL5 Honda Civic Type R is the same relief-less valve as the silver kit with one change that matters if you have thought about how your engine bay looks: a black body. HKS mounts this valve where it can be seen, which is a design decision rather than a packaging accident, and on a car whose engine cover and intake are already dark the silver version can read as the odd element. Function is untouched. At low boost the valve stays shut and holds the pressure the ECU asks for; on throttle closure it dumps what the turbocharger no longer needs, and vented to atmosphere it produces the same sharp, high-frequency release note.

Design and Performance

A pull-type valve working across its full range instead of cracking open at a set threshold. Under low boost the SQV IV Kit Black Edition does not relieve at all, so nothing bleeds away before the engine sees it; at higher boost it holds that pressure stably and opens only when the throttle shuts, taking load off the compressor on every lift and upshift. HKS quotes an average installation time of three hours using the FL5-specific adapter and bracket supplied in the kit.

HKS bundles the silver valve with the suction return kit as the HKS Super SQV IV Return Kit Plus for FL5 Honda Civic Type R 71008-AH012V. There is no equivalent bundle in the black finish, so a black valve with recirculation means buying the two parts separately.
HKS lists the SUPER SQV filter (part number 1410-SA008) as a maintenance item, replaced every three to six months or every 3,000 to 5,000km. Bulletproof Automotive does not currently stock it.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer.
