All 955 / 957 Cayenne engine options are capable of handling both on-road and off-road conditions, but the Cayenne’s factory cooling system was not designed for the demands of extreme driving. Berg Peaks Off-Road, well-versed in VAG builds, collaborated with CSF to develop a cooling solution tailored for Cayenne builds. Their goal was to design a radiator capable of handling off-road, overlanding, trail driving, hot climates, and towing/hauling. After nearly a year of design and testing, CSF proudly introduces the Porsche 955 / 957 Cayenne High-Performance Radiator.

Design & Engineering

CSF has a strong history of success with Porsche cooling systems, producing everything from intercoolers and radiators for newer water-cooled models to oil coolers for air-cooled classics. As the most popular choice for performance radiators across various off-road applications, CSF ensures that this new radiator is top quality. The 955 / 957 Cayenne Radiator features CSF’s latest ultra-efficient 5mm fin technology, increasing the heat transfer area by 20-25% over traditional radiators.

CSF vs OEM

Porsche’s original radiator for the Cayenne features a plastic tank and single-row aluminum core. While generally durable, this design struggles to meet the cooling needs of the 955 / 957 Cayenne, which is prone to overheating on hot days, especially during off-roading and towing. With these SUVs now 15-20 years old, the original radiators have likely lost cooling efficiency due to bent fins and clogged tubes. CSF addressed these issues when designing the new radiator.
The CSF radiator incorporates advanced 5mm fin technology, which significantly increases heat exchange surface area for improved cooling efficiency and recovery. A larger 2-row 42mm aluminum core enhances fluid capacity and heat dissipation, while CSF’s exclusive B-Tube technology boosts heat transfer by approximately 15% over standard oval welded tubes. Multi-louvered fins maximize airflow, and the 100% TIG-welded aluminum construction enhances durability and longevity. The CSF radiator mounts in the factory location with no modifications or cutting required.

Real World Testing

Berg Peaks, one of the largest builders of off-road Audi, Porsche, and VW vehicles, was CSF’s development partner for this radiator. Based in Denver, Colorado—a challenging environment for vehicle testing due to high altitude, low air density, and extreme weather—Berg’s proximity to mountainous terrain made it an ideal location for real-world testing. Berg began testing the radiator in November 2023 after debuting the “Warthog” 955 Cayenne Turbo at SEMA. The initial design featured CSF’s popular 42mm high-performance core with 6.5mm fins, and Berg noticed performance improvements even at idle.
Test Results:
- Main testing took place at Loveland Pass near Denver with two similarly equipped 955 Cayennes. Both had similar mileage, tire size, winches, lights, and other exterior accessories; the only difference was gearing and the radiator. With the CSF radiator installed, one Cayenne showed improved performance over the OE-equipped Cayenne, which had to remain a gear lower to maintain similar RPMs at speed. Data collected on the 10,000ft (3048m) climb demonstrated that the CSF radiator performed significantly better than the factory version.
- Testing revealed an 18-20°F temperature difference between the CSF-equipped Cayenne and the OE radiator setup. Both vehicles started at 186.8°F (86°C), but the OE radiator ended at 212°F (100°C) while the CSF radiator finished at 194°F (90°C), showing substantial real-world gains in cooling efficiency.
- In extreme testing, Berg observed coolant temperatures reaching 225°F (107°C) during prolonged donut maneuvers. In response, CSF enhanced the radiator design to maximize cooling headroom for all driving conditions. CSF’s updated core, featuring the latest 5mm fin technology introduced at the end of 2023, provides even more heat transfer surface and thermal efficiency, ensuring performance in the toughest off-road environments.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse.
