What do the Muffler Bypass Pipes replace, and how much weight do they save?

They replace the factory mufflers at the rear of the car with straight-through tubes, saving fifty pounds. That mass sits behind the rear axle, which is where a 911 is least forgiving about carrying it, so most owners describe a change in how the car turns in before they mention the extra power.

How loud are they, and will they drone?

They are considerably louder than standard, with a deep Supercup-style growl, and Fabspeed is direct about that rather than downplaying it. On drone specifically they specify minimal cabin resonance at cruising speed, which is the difference between a car you can drive across a state and one you stop enjoying after an hour.

Are exhaust tips included?

Yes. Polished stainless steel tips are supplied with the pipes, so there is no second purchase needed to finish the job. That is worth noting at this price point, since several competing bypass pipes in this category are sold without tips and expect you to reuse the factory ones.

Do they affect emissions?

No. These are mufflers, and on a 996 GT3 the emissions hardware sits in the mid-section rather than at the rear. Fabspeed publishes no off-road restriction for these pipes, unlike their Competition X-Pipe for the same chassis, which is a separate part addressing a different section of the system.

How much power do they add?

Fabspeed's dyno records eleven wheel horsepower and seven lb-ft, and notes that the gains are carried throughout the rev band rather than appearing only near the limiter. Your result depends on the car, the rest of the exhaust and conditions on the day. The weight saving is the larger part of the value.

How difficult is the installation, and can I go back to standard?

It is a DIY-grade job at Level-1 install difficulty, with no cutting, no welding and no fabrication required, and it reverses just as easily. Keep the factory mufflers on a shelf and the car can be returned to standard for a sale in an afternoon, which matters on a 996 GT3 now that values have moved.

Description

Fabspeed Muffler Bypass Pipes for 996 Porsche 911 GT3

Fabspeed’s Muffler Bypass Pipes for 996 Porsche 911 GT3 remove fifty pounds from the back of the car, which on this chassis is the most consequential fifty pounds anywhere. The factory mufflers are heavy, restrictive and hung behind the rear axle where mass does the most damage to how a 911 changes direction, and Fabspeed replaces them with straight-through mandrel-bent T304L tubes fabricated in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Eleven wheel horsepower and seven lb-ft come with the weight, carried across the rev band rather than spiking at the top. What owners talk about, though, is the noise: a Supercup-style growl, considerably louder and more aggressive than standard, and notably free of the cabin drone that ruins a long drive. Rolex Grand Am teams have run them, and so have a great many PCA, POC and HPDE regulars. Polished stainless tips are in the box.

Notes

These pipes replace the factory mufflers only. They do not include or alter the mid-section, which is where the 996 GT3 carries its emissions hardware, and Fabspeed publishes no off-road restriction for them.
Power, torque and weight figures are taken from a specific vehicle at ambient conditions. Results vary with the car, its state of tune and the conditions on the day.
Polished stainless tips are supplied, so no separate tip purchase is required
For circuits that enforce a sound limit, the Fabspeed Competition Muffler Outlets w/ Adjustable Turndowns (FS.POR.996GT3.CMO) let you aim the exhaust away from the meter, which is worth having alongside a system this loud
For a quieter rear section with genuine muffling, the Fabspeed Maxflo Performance Exhaust System is the alternative for this chassis, and the Supercup Exhaust System is the fuller competition option
Mid-section options are the Sport Cat X-Pipe (FS.POR.996GT3.SCX) for road cars and the Competition X-Pipe (FS.POR.996GT3.CBX) for closed-course use
Upstream, the Fabspeed Sport Headers for 996 Porsche 911 GT3 are the next step, with XperTune Performance Software (FS.POR.996GT3.ET) to match the calibration

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
