The updated 718 Cayman S, with its turbocharged flat 4 engine, generates an impressive 350hp, and goes from 0 to 60 in just 4.6 seconds. However, the Porsche 718 has drawn criticism for its lack of exhaust sound. At Kline, they specialize in transforming these subdued turbo sounds into a captivating supercar roar.

The Sound

• Kline has extended its respected Porsche range features to their Cayman series. These include a 1D CLR X pipe to generate a fiery howl at higher rpm, harmonically tuned silencers, and ultra-thin Inconel 625, contributing to a sound that is uniquely Kline’s.
• Kline’s 718 Cayman Turbo system also features a valvetronic design. This allows for quiet operation when the valve is closed, while providing an unimpeded raw baritone roar and optimal performance when the valves are open.

Performance

• The system is available in a racing version for maximum sound and performance or with a choice of 100 or 200 cell high flow sports cats. The catalyst section is modular, allowing for rapid interchangeability of the cats with racing pipes depending on usage requirements.

Stainless Steel

• 304-grade stainless steel is a popular choice in the exhaust manufacturing industry for its durability, thermal stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of fabrication. However, its substantial weight and limited tensile strength can be shortcomings when used in high-performance exhaust components. Furthermore, the requirement for thicker walls may adversely affect the sound of the exhaust.

Inconel

• On the other hand, Inconel 625 is renowned for its durability and heat resistance. This material is commonly used to construct critical parts like high-performance jet engine exhaust turbine blades. It is a preferred material for Formula One exhaust systems and prestigious hypercar projects, such as the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. Despite Inconel’s ability to withstand temperatures over 1000°C and its focus on lightweight design, it poses unique challenges due to its complex machinability and specialized welding requirements.

Carbon Fiber

• Lastly, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer is valued for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and is in high demand in industries such as automotive and aerospace. When used, it leads to weight reduction and increased stiffness, enhancing the vehicle’s overall performance significantly.
