The BBS FI-R Centerlock wheel brings five decades of race-bred wheel engineering to the 991.2 911 Turbo. BBS has supplied Formula 1 and DTM grids since the 1970s, and the FI-R is built on the same die-forging process the company developed there: a single billet of aluminum pressed into a monoblock whose grain structure follows the finished shape of the wheel rather than running straight through it. At 20.7lbs in 20×11.5, it strips rotating and unsprung mass from the rear axle, where a 911 Turbo reports the difference immediately through steering weight, ride quality and how quickly the rear settles after a crest. The Diamond Black finish keeps all of that engineering understated.
In 1970, two race car enthusiasts from Schiltach in Germany, Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand, founded BBS to build lightweight fiberglass body panels that gave teams an advantage on track. BMW Motorsport noticed, and the company grew quickly. In 1983 BBS introduced the three-piece RS wheel, a design still regarded as one of the best ever made. The company remains committed to its founding idea: Technology through Motorsport.
BBS builds wheels for cars, trucks and SUVs across three ranges. The Forged Line covers one-piece and two-piece forged designs, the Performance Line covers one-piece and dual-construction flow formed models, and the Design Line covers low pressure cast rims. Design, engineering and manufacturing all happen in house, which is how BBS keeps its original equipment programs and its motorsport programs feeding each other.
