How much power does the VF ECU Software for 997.1 Carrera add?

VF Engineering quotes 340 hp and 290 lb-ft from its ECU Software for 997.1 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models, gains of 19 hp and 17 lb-ft over the factory 321 hp and 273 lb-ft of the 3.6 liter flat six.

Does the software fit the Carrera 4?

Yes. VF Engineering lists one calibration for the 997.1 Carrera and Carrera 4, which share the 3.6 liter flat six. The 3.8 liter Carrera S and 4S take a separate VF calibration, and the 997.2 cars from 2009 use a different engine altogether.

How is the software loaded?

VF supplies the calibration as an end-user programmable package written through the OBDII port, so the owner can install it without visiting a workshop. VF Engineering states that the factory calibration can be restored from the same port at any time, with nothing physical changed.

Will the calibration change how the car drives every day?

The car keeps its factory gearbox and hardware, so it drives as before at a steady pace. The difference shows when the throttle is pressed, with a quicker response from the flat six and a little more pull through the middle of the rev range.

Are any other parts required?

No. VF Engineering writes the calibration for the 997.1 Carrera on its factory hardware, so no supporting parts are needed. Owners who have already changed the exhaust or intake can ask Bulletproof Automotive to confirm the right file with VF Engineering first.

Description

VF Engineering Performance ECU Software for 997.1 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4

VF Engineering’s Performance ECU Software for 997.1 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 recalibrates the 3.6-liter flat-six in the base cars of the first 997 generation. VF quotes 340 hp and 290 lb-ft with the calibration installed, gains of 19 hp and 17 lb-ft over the factory 321 hp and 273 lb-ft. The base 997.1 is one of the most accessible ways into a modern 911, and owners often drive them more than any other Porsche they own; the calibration keeps the car’s easy character while making the engine answer the throttle more readily. It is a modest, reversible improvement for a car meant to be driven.

About VF Engineering

VF Engineering designs supercharger and turbocharger systems, titanium exhausts and ECU and TCU calibrations from a 15,000 sq ft facility in Anaheim, Orange County, California, where it has been based for nearly two decades. Every calibration is developed in house on the company’s own Mustang AWD 500 chassis dyno, ECU boards are handled in a dedicated clean room, and new parts start in an R&D room equipped with a rapid prototyper. VF reports that more than 93 percent of its supercharger systems are still running after years of hard use, many on their second or third owner, and its engineers carry the testing discipline of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series into every road calibration.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
