Which years does the VF ECU Software for 4S pre-facelift cars cover?

VF Engineering lists this ECU Software for 4S Audi R8 models built from 2016 to 2019 with the 5.2 liter V10. The facelifted 2020-2024 cars take a different VF calibration, and the first-generation Type 42 R8 has its own V8 and V10 files.

How much power does the software add to a 2016-2019 R8?

VF Engineering has not published a stock figure for this car that matches the Audi rating, so Bulletproof Automotive does not quote a gain. The change owners notice is quicker throttle response and a cleaner pull through the upper rev range.

Can the factory calibration be put back?

Yes. VF supplies the calibration as an end-user programmable package written through the OBDII port and states that the factory calibration can be restored from the same port at any time. Nothing physical is changed, so the car returns to exactly its original state.

Does the software fit both the V10 and V10 plus?

VF Engineering lists the calibration for the 2016-2019 R8 V10 without separating the two output levels. Owners should give Bulletproof Automotive the exact model and build date when ordering, so the correct file can be confirmed with VF before it is supplied.

Can the TCU software be added?

Yes. The VF Engineering TCU calibration covers every 4S R8 from 2016 onward and refines the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox. It is sold as a separate listing and is commonly installed alongside the engine calibration by owners who want the complete effect.

Description

VF Engineering Performance ECU Software for 4S Audi R8 (Pre-Facelift)

VF Engineering’s Performance ECU Software for 4S Audi R8 (Pre-Facelift) is the calibration for the first four years of the second-generation R8, built from 2016 to 2019 on the aluminum and carbon fiber platform it shared with the Huracan. Its naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 is one of the great modern engines, and VF does not try to change its nature; the calibration revises ignition, fueling and throttle mapping so the engine answers the pedal more readily and pulls more cleanly to the redline. The 2020 facelift has its own VF file. This one suits an owner of an early 4S who wants the V10 sharpened while the car stays exactly as Audi built it.

Features

Calibration specific to the 2016-2019 R8
Revised ignition, fueling and throttle mapping
Quicker response from the 5.2-liter V10
End-user programmable through the OBDII port
Factory calibration can be restored at any time
No change to factory hardware

Applications

Audi R8 V10: 4S pre-facelift | 2016-2019 | 5.2L V10

Notes

This ECU Software for 4S Audi R8 pre-facelift models is software only
The 2020-2024 R8 takes the separate VF Engineering Performance ECU Software for 4S Audi R8 (Facelift)
No horsepower gain is quoted here because the stock baseline VF publishes for this car does not match the factory rating
For the gearbox, see the VF Engineering Performance TCU Software for 4S Audi R8
For the VF package with an optional stainless steel exhaust, see the VF Engineering Competition Package for 4S Audi R8

About VF Engineering

VF Engineering designs supercharger and turbocharger systems, titanium exhausts and ECU and TCU calibrations from a 15,000 sq ft facility in Anaheim, Orange County, California, where it has been based for nearly two decades. Every calibration is developed in house on the company’s own Mustang AWD 500 chassis dyno, ECU boards are handled in a dedicated clean room, and new parts start in an R&D room equipped with a rapid prototyper. VF reports that more than 93 percent of its supercharger systems are still running after years of hard use, many on their second or third owner, and its engineers carry the testing discipline of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series into every road calibration.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
