Does the Brake Cooling Kit for ND work with the factory rotors?

Yes. Verus Engineering tested the Brake Cooling Kit for ND with tufts and thermal imaging on the stock rotors, whose vanes are small next to those of big brake kits, and found it highly effective. The rotors ran much cooler directly after braking and after a short drive without braking, and the gain grew with speed.

Where is the inlet on the ND kit?

The inlet sits at the factory fog light location in the front bumper, where carbon fog-light ducts collect air and pass it through pre-cut 2.5 inch silicone hose. Stainless backing plates with 3D printed 316L ducts then direct that air into the center of each rotor. Verus Engineering kept the route as short as possible for efficiency.

What results have track drivers reported?

Owners who track their ND have told Verus Engineering of less brake fade, fewer cracked rotors, better pad wear and less boiled brake fluid after fitting the kit. Those are owner reports from track use, so results depend on pads, fluid, driving style and the circuit, but they match the cooler rotor temperatures Verus measured in its own thermal tests.

Is the ND brake cooling kit a home garage job?

Yes. A few hours, minimal hand tools and modest know-how are all Verus Engineering expects the job to need, because the kit follows the factory layout. The hose comes cut to size, stainless clamps and eight zip ties are included, and Verus publishes an install manual for the job.

Is brake cooling worth adding to a track day Miata?

Yes, if the brakes fade or the fluid boils late in a session. Track driving heats the brakes far more than road use, and the small vanes in the factory rotors limit how much heat they shed on their own. Verus Engineering built the kit to reduce brake fade and improve the thermal behavior of the brakes on the ND.

Description

Verus Engineering Full Brake Cooling Kit for ND Mazda MX-5 Miata

Verus Engineering’s Full Brake Cooling Kit for ND Mazda MX-5 Miata draws air through the factory fog light location and sends it by the shortest route to the center of each rotor. Verus proved the effect with tuft testing and thermal imaging: even on the stock rotors, whose small internal vanes limit flow, the rotors stayed much cooler right after braking. Customers who track their cars report less fade, less rotor cracking, better pad wear and less brake fluid boiling, so this kit earns its place on any ND that sees regular track days.

Construction

The inlet ducts are 2×2 twill carbon fiber, autoclave cured, with a cross-section that narrows steadily to keep air moving. Pre-cut 2.5 inch silicone hose links them to stainless backing plates, each carrying a riveted, 3D printed 316L stainless duct aimed at the rotor center.

Features

Carbon fog-light inlet ducts
Aims cooling air at the rotor center
Stainless backing plates with 3D printed scoops for extra flow
Bolts in along factory lines with minimal hand tools

What’s Included

Backing plates with riveted 316L 3D printed stainless ducts (x2, L/R)
Carbon fog-light ducts (L/R)
2.5 inch high-temperature silicone hose, cut to size (x2)
Stainless hose clamps (x2)
Zip ties (x8)

Applications

Mazda MX-5 Miata: ND | 2016-present

Notes

The kit takes its air from the factory fog light location; Verus does not say how it affects cars fitted with fog lights, so confirm with Verus first if yours has them
The Brake Cooling Kit for ND gains the most at high speed, where Verus measured higher pressure and flow at the inlet
Verus documents the ND kit in an install manual and an informative packet

About Verus Engineering

Verus Engineering designs aerodynamic and performance parts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two engineers founded it in late 2014 as Velox Motorsports and renamed it in 2017 after a trademark dispute; verus is Latin for true or complete. Each design starts from a 3D scan of the car, is developed with CFD and finite element analysis and is validated on track, across more than 20 platforms from the GR86 to the C8 Corvette.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
