Does the Ducktail Rear Spoiler for ZN6 add downforce or only change the look?

Yes, it adds downforce. Without a spoiler the rear of the car produces lift, and the Ducktail Rear Spoiler for ZN6 creates a high-pressure area on top of the trunk that turns it into downforce at speed. Verus Engineering confirmed the effect in OpenFOAM CFD and shaped the trailing edge to keep drag low.

How is the ducktail spoiler installed?

It bonds to the trunk with the 3M VHB double-sided tape supplied in the box. Verus Engineering publishes an install manual and an install video, and because the spoiler was shaped from scan data of the car it sits tight to the trunk lid. On cars that had the factory spoiler, the ducktail covers the leftover OE mounting holes.

Can I run the ducktail with a rear wing?

Yes. Verus Engineering designed the ducktail to work with its High-Efficiency rear wing and states the spoiler does not harm wing performance when the two run together, recommending the pair for a significant gain in rear downforce. Verus has also published a video of the spoiler working with its larger UCW rear wing.

Will a spoiler slow down my naturally aspirated 86 or BRZ?

No, not in any significant way, according to Verus Engineering. The spoiler is an efficient downforce device, and Verus controlled its trailing edge to minimize the drag increase while keeping the downforce benefit. That makes it a sensible choice for naturally aspirated cars, where added drag hurts straight-line speed more than on a car with extra power.

What is the ducktail made from?

It is 2x2 twill pre-preg carbon fiber, formed on a billet aluminum mold and finished in a gloss automotive clear coat that resists UV. Verus Engineering modeled the surface to G3 continuity in NX for a smooth, flowing shape, and built it from scan data of the car.

Description

Verus Engineering Carbon Ducktail Rear Spoiler for ZN6 Toyota 86, Scion FR-S and ZC6 Subaru BRZ

Verus Engineering’s Carbon Ducktail Rear Spoiler for ZN6 Toyota 86, Scion FR-S and ZC6 Subaru BRZ turns the rear deck from a surface that makes lift into one that makes downforce, by building a high-pressure zone on top of the trunk. Verus controlled the shape of the trailing edge to keep the drag increase small, which matters on a naturally aspirated car where drag costs speed. It is the right piece for a street car or a light track build that wants a cleaner, functional rear end; drivers chasing large rear loads should look at a full wing.

Design and Construction

Verus modeled the surface in NX to G3 continuity and checked its effect in OpenFOAM CFD. The spoiler is laid up from 2×2 twill pre-preg carbon on a billet aluminum mold and finished in a gloss UV-resistant automotive clear. On cars that wore the factory spoiler, it covers the 2013-2021 OE mounting holes.

Features

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
