Does the S-Tai Bonnet for AP1 also fit the AP2?

Yes. Spoon registers it for every S2000 from the April 1999 launch to the end of production in 2009, covering the F20C AP1 and the F22C AP2. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, sells the S-Tai Bonnet for AP1 and AP2 cars across the 2000 to 2009 US model years.

Is the bonnet lighter than the factory part?

Spoon does not publish a bonnet weight or a saving figure, so BA does not quote one. The 15 kg Spoon lists for the item most likely includes packing. Buy this bonnet for airflow, engine bay cooling and the endurance car look, not for a measured reduction in front-end weight.

What paint preparation does it need?

Spoon uses wax when the part is molded, so the surface must be degreased first. Spoon then calls for scuffing with roughly 800 grit wet paper and treating any pinholes, scratches or hairline cracks with polyester putty and surfacer. Prepared that way, Spoon says the FRP paints to a clean finish.

Why would a race bonnet be shaped for fuel economy?

Over a long race, drag costs fuel and every fuel stop costs time in the pits. Spoon shaped this bonnet to tidy the airflow over the nose of the S2000 so the car could run fast and efficiently over distance. Spoon publishes no consumption figure for the bonnet on its own, so none is quoted here.

Is professional installation recommended?

Yes. The panel has to be trial fitted, prepared, painted and refitted with correct gaps, which is body shop work. Spoon also warns against curing paint with booth heaters or spot heat because FRP can deform, so choose a painter willing to let the finish air dry at moderate temperature.

Description

Spoon Sports S-Tai Bonnet for AP1 / AP2 Honda S2000

The Spoon Sports S-Tai Bonnet for AP1 and AP2 Honda S2000 comes from the endurance program Spoon has run with the S2000 since 1999, the year the car went on sale and the year Spoon chose long-distance racing as its main stage for it. In races measured in hours, a car has to be quick and easy on fuel at once, so the bonnet was shaped to calm the airflow over the nose while channeling fresh air to the parts of the engine bay that most need cooling. Spoon spent about two years between first sketches and the finished part, racing and testing it throughout. The S-Tai name points to Super Taikyu, the Japanese endurance series. Molded in FRP and supplied unpainted, it suits an S2000 that does track days or time attack, or an owner who wants the look of the Spoon endurance cars.

Directs fresh air to the engine bay areas that need cooling

Notes

The S-Tai Bonnet for AP1 and AP2 is supplied unpainted in FRP and needs paint before fitting
Spoon uses wax in the molding process: degrease the panel, scuff it with roughly 800-grit wet paper, and fill any pinholes or small cracks with polyester putty and surfacer before paint
Test fit before painting and let the paint air dry, below 40 degrees Celsius in cold or humid weather, as heat from a booth or heater can distort the panel

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
