The Spoon Sports Motion Control Beam for FK8 Honda Civic Type R works where a conventional brace cannot: at the very front and rear of the body, where the shell twists most in a corner. Instead of a solid bar, each beam carries a damper built from high-rebound springs and friction plates. Large inputs meet the springs, which resist twist as a brace would, while small ones are soaked up by the elasticity of the friction plates, so the car gains turn-in without the fine vibration a rigid brace tends to add. Spoon has raced production-based touring cars since the 1990s with exactly that balance in mind, keeping the comfort a road car needs. The front and rear set weighs 7.8 kg. It is the right choice for an FK8, FK7 or FC1 that already handles well and should feel cleaner on the road; it will not cure worn suspension.

Design and Development

Spoon calls its body philosophy rigidization, and its Rigid Collar, sold since 2007, makes the monocoque and subframes act as one. The beam looks at the problem from another angle, controlling diagonal twist from load transfer at the extremities of the body. Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, notes the friction damper technology was first developed by Aisin for other manufacturers before Spoon adapted it for Honda.

Special order items from overseas take considerably longer.
