Does the Monoblock Caliper Set for EP3 fit the US Civic Si?

Yes. Spoon registers the EP3 Civic Type R, and Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, sells the Monoblock Caliper Set for EP3 for the Civic Si hatchback built on the same chassis. The set comes with brackets and hardware, so it bolts to the front hubs without fabrication on either car.

Which brake pads go in these calipers?

The calipers take the S2000 factory front pad shape and size, and Go Tuning states those pads must be used. S2000 pads come in a wide range of compounds from street to endurance racing, so an EP3 owner gains more pad choice than the factory caliper offers. Pads are not included in the set.

Can I keep my current rotors?

Possibly. Spoon rates the caliper for rotors up to 300 mm in diameter and 26 mm thick and lists no dedicated rotor for the EP3, unlike the CL7, DC2 and EK9 versions. Measure the rotors on the car, or ask BA to check the specification, before ordering, so the caliper and disc match.

Will the calipers rub on my wheels?

They might on some designs. An opposed caliper carries pistons on both sides of the disc, which makes it wider than the factory single-sided unit. Spoon warns that wheel contact is possible and that spacers used to cure it can move the tire outside the fender, so check with the fitting shop first.

Is the upgrade worth it on a street-driven EP3?

For a car driven briskly on back roads, the firmer pedal and even pad wear are noticeable. For a hatchback that only commutes, the factory front brake with good pads and fresh fluid is enough, and the cost of the monoblock set is better saved for tires or a track day.

Description

Spoon Sports Monoblock Caliper Set for EP3 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports Monoblock Caliper Set for EP3 Civic Type R brings opposed four-piston front calipers to the K20A hatchback, and Go Tuning sells it for the US Civic Si on the same EP3 body. Spoon registers the JDM Type R from late 2001 through 2005. The calipers are cast and machined as one piece with as little assembly hardware as possible, which Spoon and Go Tuning say gives the highest rigidity at the lowest weight, about 2.6 kg per caliper. A stiff body clamps the pad squarely, so wear stays even and the pedal stays consistent as temperatures rise during a track session. Brackets and hardware come in the set, and it is designed around the factory ABS. Pads are the S2000 front shape, and Spoon rates the caliper for rotors up to 300 mm across and 26 mm thick. A sensible upgrade for an EP3 that already wears sticky tires and sees circuit time; on a commuter, fresh pads and fluid will do.

About Spoon Sports

Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
