Is installation or a full differential included?

No. The set contains one countershaft and one ring gear only. Bearings, gear oil and installation are not included, and the differential itself is separate. The manufacturer recommends precise assembly at a professional shop with every fastener torqued to the specified value, since the transmission has to be opened to fit it.

Will the Final Gear Set for FD2 fit a US-market Civic Si?

That is not confirmed. The Final Gear Set for FD2 cars is made for the transmission of the Japanese-market FD2 Civic Type R sedan, and the manufacturer warns it may not fit the US-market FG Civic. Ask Bulletproof Automotive to confirm compatibility before ordering for any car other than an FD2 Type R.

Which ratio should I choose?

The 5.1 set keeps the factory 5.062 final ratio, so speeds in each gear stay as they are and you only gain the treated, more durable gears. The 5.3 option is a numerically higher ratio for shorter gearing and quicker acceleration, at the cost of more rpm at cruising speed.

Is the DLC version worth the extra cost?

It depends on how hard the car is used. The WPC set adds fatigue strength and, the manufacturer says, longer intervals between differential overhauls. The DLC and WPC set adds a low-friction coating that the manufacturer says beds in well and keeps oil temperature down, suited to endurance racing on high-grip tires.

What does WPC treatment actually do?

WPC, short for Wide Peening and Cleaning, blasts the gear surface with fine shot at high speed. This hardens and toughens the surface layer and raises compressive stress, which increases fatigue strength and helps prevent chipped teeth. The tiny dimples it leaves also hold oil and reduce wear.

Description

J’s Racing Final Gear Set for FD2 Honda Civic Type R

J’s Racing’s Final Gear Set for FD2 Civic Type R owners replaces the countershaft and ring gear of the final drive with surface-treated parts built to survive hard circuit use. The 5.1 set keeps the factory 5.062 ratio, and a 5.3 ratio is also offered. Every set is WPC treated, a shot-peening process the Osaka tuner notes is used even in Formula 1, and the top version adds a DLC-coated driven gear. It is for FD2s doing endurance races, time attack or frequent track days; a street car on stock power is unlikely to need it.

Construction

WPC fires fine shot at high speed so the gear surface briefly reaches its recrystallization temperature, leaving a hard, tough, finer-grained layer with higher compressive stress that resists fatigue and tooth chipping. It also leaves tiny dimples that hold oil. DLC, short for Diamond Like Carbon, is a nano-scale film with a very low friction coefficient, which J’s Racing says gives good early bedding-in and less friction heat.

Features

5.1 set retains the factory 5.062 final ratio
Optional 5.3 ratio for shorter gearing
WPC treatment for surface hardness and fatigue strength
DLC-coated driven gear on the DLC and WPC version
Lower friction and oil temperature, by J’s Racing’s account
Aimed at track days, endurance racing and time attack

Countershaft (x1)
Ring gear (x1)

About J’s Racing

J’s Racing was established in Osaka in 1989, as VTEC engines and lightweight Civics and Integras were changing what a Honda could do, and it has built parts for Hondas ever since. The company develops engine response, suspension, braking, cooling and aerodynamics together as one system, then proves the parts in time attack, gymkhana, endurance and circuit racing. Its Fit lapped Tsukuba Circuit in 1’00.459, and its naturally aspirated AP1 S2000, the Maou car, became the company’s reference build for the Honda roadster. Every J’s Racing part is designed and tested in Japan, and J’s Racing USA in Carson, California handles distribution in the United States.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
