Is the Carbon Race Lip Spoiler suitable for street driving?

No. Spoon developed the Carbon Race Lip Spoiler for circuit use, and its front edge sits 60 mm lower than the factory bumper. That depth makes driveways, ramps and speed bumps a hazard. For a car that is still driven on public roads, the Spoon street lip with its 35 mm drop is the practical choice.

What does the race lip gain over the street lip?

Spoon reworked the shape for the racetrack to produce more downforce and increased the mounting strength, both lessons from its Super Taikyu race car. The street lip sits about 35 mm lower than stock and fits with factory clips and tape, while the Carbon Race Lip Spoiler goes 60 mm lower.

Does Spoon publish a downforce figure?

No. Spoon states that the race lip improves downforce over its street lip but does not publish a number, so BA does not quote one. Teams running data logging or a balance setup should expect to re-check front-to-rear aero balance after fitting it, especially with a large rear wing.

How long does it take to get one?

Go Tuning, the sole US distributor for Spoon, lists this lip as pre-order only, so it is built to order rather than held on the shelf. BA confirms the current lead time when the order is placed, and buyers working toward a specific event should allow for that in their planning.

Does the carbon need any finishing?

Spoon recommends a UV-protective clear coat, as sunlight can discolor bare carbon fiber over time. Test-fit the lip on the car before the clear goes on, and let it dry naturally rather than in a heated booth, because heat can distort the part and spoil the fit.

Description

Spoon Sports Carbon Race Lip Spoiler for FL5 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports Carbon Race Lip Spoiler for FL5 Civic Type R is the circuit-only sibling of Spoon’s street lip, and it comes straight from the aero package Spoon built for its Super Taikyu endurance race car. Spoon optimized the shape for use on a racetrack, raising front downforce and making the mounting stronger so the lip stays put under sustained high-speed load and the odd brush with a curb. The front edge sits 60 mm lower than the factory bumper, a large step that cuts the approach angle sharply, and Spoon calls for real care at the front of the car. Go Tuning, Spoon’s US distributor, sells it on pre-order and describes it as a racetrack part. It belongs on an FL5 that is trailered to events or driven gently to the track; for a car that also commutes, the 35 mm street lip is the honest choice.

The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
