Spoon Sports Carbon Bonnet for GK5 Honda Fit
Takes 3.6 kg off the nose of the third-generation Fit while keeping the factory insulator, garnish and latch
The Spoon Sports Carbon Bonnet for GK5 Honda Fit trims the bonnet from 7.8 kg to 4.2 kg, and on a small-engined, front-heavy car the saving is felt more than the number suggests. Spoon lists the benefits as quicker turn-in, less load on the brakes and better acceleration. Underneath, the panel copies the factory rib structure for strength, so the original insulator and garnish transfer straight across. Spoon also says years of resin development have reduced the UV discoloration that bare carbon is prone to. It locks with a factory-type latch and needs no pins, and it fits both early and late versions of the third-generation Fit, from the 1.3 liter and 1.5 liter cars to the Fit Hybrid. The natural home is a GK5 RS used for club racing or autocross; on a car used only around town it is mostly a change of look.
Spoon Sports was founded in 1988 in Suginami, Tokyo, by Tatsuru Ichishima, a former Honda race car tester and driver, with backing from Honda and Mugen. The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
